so far the left has compared it to the civil war and bombing innocent civilians. But I guess since those were linked on Drudge it didn't really happen?

It is documented, as I have stated before, that abortion was passed to keep the minority population down. It had nothing to do with womens rights or anything else. I view abortion alot like I view the draft. Only the poor kids are going to get killed.

I have seriously kicked around the idea of adopting two kids from Haiti once my children (I have 3) reach the 7th grade. I say two because I'm sure there is some brother and sister or two brothers that need adopted and this way they would feel they still had some connection to their homeland. I think it would make it an easier transition for them. Our head of music at church just adopted the cutest little boy from Haiti too.

Yes, we voted, and the entire left called it this. It was unanimous.

your use of "we" is confusing for a self-proclaimed, undecided voter

and it's funny how the big brush can't be used on you like you do with it

All political sniping aside, I applaud you for even considering that. Hope God clears the path for you to take care of two children that otherwise might face difficulty and pain growing up that we can't even understand.

This just in - Republicans are against women's health AND people being able to see the Cherry Blossoms in DC. Oh the humanity!

saw some news coverage of that last night. Pretty lame.

But equally lame is trying to portray that parade as meaningful to the Dems in this debate so as to minimize, or be dismissive of, their actual concerns.

what do you consider their "actual" concerns?

1) The depth of cuts in education programs.

2) The depth of cuts in the arts and cultural programs.

3) Ideologically-driven efforts to alter Medicaid so it is state run block grants (so as to make abortion as much a state right issue, where the GOP believes it has the advantage) and similar such provisions that are not about cutting spending.

2) waste of money

A reasonable inference considering that the GOP, far more than the Democrats, will shift its position on the proper venue for resolution of issues based largely, if not entirely, on where it thinks it has the best chance of winning the desired outcome.

The reason the GOP favors block grants to the state of Medicaid is not some antiquated 10th amendment bull shiite. Rather, it is because they perceive that they have a much better chance of controlling the money at the state level, and thereby they can control abortion spending.

The GOP is notorious for flip-flopping on where an issue should reside -- at the state or at the federal levels -- based on where at the time it thinks it has the largest bloc of power. Their proclaimed holier-than-thou interest in "states' rights" is almost always a compete charade.

If its something they think they control better at the state level, they insist that the Constitution places the decision there. If its something where they think they have more control at the federal level, they proclaim it part of the powers of the federal government.

Witness the recent shift in the GOP's position on where certain corporate matters, gun owners rights, political financing, etc., should be decided based on the make-up of the Supreme Court.

The first 2 have been agreed to by the Dems and the last one is not at all part of this budget.

Reid is making up ridiculous reasons (e.g. want to deny women HC and will ruin tourists trips to DC this weekend) because he can't defend holding this up over Planned Parenthood funding for the rest of the year.

Thank God people can now plan trips to DC/Va and see those cherry blossoms. I can only hope women can still get health care and old people will not starve.

Obama's speech was a little strange. He seemed to be taking a page out of the Clinton playbook running to the center talking about working together for tax and spending cuts. But for the life of me I can't see where he got anything out of this deal.

i really don't see any winners or losers other than the fact that House Republicans have completely shifted the debate and there's a war coming in a couple of weeks.

Let me guess at how it went.

"there were some who wanted to make drastic cuts that would basically remove all discretionary spending and on the other side were people who wanted no cuts whatsoever. I got the sides together to make reasonable and necessary cuts while preserving key government services"

Obama is king of the strawman.

Obama's next move is going to be to rip a page out of the Clinton/Morris playbook and triangulate the issue.

Interesting article in the WSJ today about his upcoming "budget" talk.

Basically, Ryan caught him off-guard by coming out with a comprehensive plan and some Senators have been pressuring him to come up with something.

Interesting too that his budget proposal contained nothing from the Deficit Commission and did virtually nothing about the debt. Now he's coming out with a new budget to "address these issues".
