Who Could replace Phil?

If Phil fulmer were to step aside because he was tired of dealing with the "LEGION OF THE MISERABLE", I have hardly seen the name JOHN CHAVIS mentioned.

But then, maybe he might be just a tired of the Legion as Fulmer is.

We need Bill Cowher. Man he is a guy that would rally the fan base. I love that guy.

Me too, but I don't think he is leaving Pittsburgh anytime soon. They love him there, and he loves being there.

List of actual-factual, have-a-shot at getting replacements who would be quality gets.  People I would interview if I was AD Mike (in order)...

Tier 1
Norm Chow
John Chavis
Jon Gruden
Jeff Fisher (if let go from Titans)
Mike Leach
Brian Billick (in trouble with Ravens)
Karl Dorrell

Tier 2
Steve Mariucci
Herm Edwards
Al Borges
Al Saunders
Art Shell
Pat Hill
Jeff Bower
Mike Martz (if his health improves)
Mike Ditka (if he even wants to coach again)

How would we have a shot at getting Chow, Gruden, Fisher, or Billick? The titans will not let go of Fisher for a long time, and even if Billick was let go which I doubt he would be snatched up by another NFL team in a heartbeat.(same goes for Gruden)

Chow was really distraught being chosen over for the Stanford position. He really wanted it it from what i read and heard. I think he really wants a shot at he3ad coaching. Took Ralph Refrigerator from Maryland years to finally land a job and he has done really well.

norm chow i could deal with. he should be able to recruit really well on the offensive side of the ball and we all know he is a offensive mastermind.

Gruden would only go to UT if he couldn't get an NFL job and he'd probably take an OC job first to see if anything would develop a year later. if Fulmer does leave one way or another at the end of this year i HIGHLY doubt Gruden would just up and leave Tampa for the college ranks. that makes absolutely no sense.

Al Groh left the Jets to go coach at Virginia

Groh's situation w/ the Jets isn't exactly the situation Gruden has in Tampa. Gruden has a super bowl ring, a nice contract and a lot of power as to player personnel. he's also got a close friend in Bruce Allen as his GM and they're 2 peas in the same pod. basically he's got everything he wants so why would he leave to go back to the college ranks? he's an NFL coach and UT can't really throw anything his way that will make him just pack it up. it's not like being AD is as intriguing as being part GM. the Glazers will do just about anything to keep him and won't give him up w/out a nasty fight considering how much they sacrificed to get him in the first place.

i would like richt or tubberville,  but neither of them are realistic.

Tubberville? Are you kidding? He's worse than Randy Sanders. Has no clue how to coach and will not allow any Coordinator who he thinks threatens him in the door....

The Aubs have been pretty good this year and were great last year mostly thanks to Al Borges (who is a good OC, but horrible head coach)

It's well documented that Gruden and the Glazers don't get along very well. If the Bucs have a bad season you will start to hear some grumbling coming out of Tampa. I know they've only lost once but they lost Greise for the season and Simms is their QB now. I addmit it's a stretch but it is possible

Great idea . . . an NFL guy with no ties to the area that doesn't run the ball and has a heart condition.

vol in bama i have to disagree with you. tubberville is nothing like sanders. he has alot less talent than we do and he still finds a way to win. also when he knows something is broken he doesn't hesitate to fix it, either by coaching changes or some other means. i wish auburn had let him go a couple of years ago because he is on the verge of putting auburn on the elite scale. another team to beat up on tennessee. all he needs is to recruit alittle better which seems to be happening and watch out sky is the limit. tubberville is twice the coach in my opinion as fulmer and in years to come i believe he will prove it.

You've got to be kidding. Last year was the first time in his career that he DIDN'T lose at least 4 games . . . and he had 4 NFL first round draft picks on the roster. He's got two losses this year with Georgia and Alabama left on the schedule. Not saying he isn't a good coach, I just find it funny when people try to elevate him to elite status. This is the same guy who 2 years ago was an eyelash from losing his job.

Yeah but he did bash ESPN. Just say NO to Tubby. We don't need that train wreck.

last year tubberville had great talent, he went undefeated. he never had talent in ole miss, but still managed to post a winning record. fulmer had great talent in 2001 and couldn't even win the sec. in my opinion if tubberville can recruit better talent his teams will start being among the top of the sec.

Tubberville has beat Fulmer 3 out of 3 the last 2 years hes been at Auburn. These were not close games for the most part either.

I think Fulmers recruiting classes have been rated as better then Tubberville's during this time.

Tubberville may not be an elite coach, but it doesnt say much about Fulmer, for the most part he's owned Fulmer, with argueably less highly recruited players.
