Who is resposible?

you should call her up, ask for a date, take her some nice flowers, then jack slap the urine out her.

It's completely unrelated, but my mother told some former teacher from my high school off because she had apparently asked her if she could ask me out when I was like 19. Heck she was only like 23.

For the record, I would have totally wrecked it.

at 19, that's not a particularly high threshold, I would assume.

well I suppose that depends on what you are getting at, by wrecked it, I would have done as much wrecking as humanly possible in 47 seconds. She was definitely one of the better looking teachers I have ever seen though.

See, why can't I find me a hot little school teacher now.

I was getting more at the standards for hittin' it moreso than staying power.

Show me one objectivist prison camp or one objectivist despot purging millions of people, and I may not find that statement as comical as I do right now.

If a government put Rand's objectivism into full employ (which doesn't make sense I suppose) then I'm sure we could find plenty of ugly examples. That's kind of like arguing that a comet hitting the earth isn't as scary as being attacked by a bear because I can't show you a comet that has claws or sharp teeth. I have a hard time respecting the coldness and self-infatuation of a philosophy that promotes elitism and would have all those too stupid and lazy by their standards written off to die....or at least that was the opinion I got of Ayn Rand's views....

I figured, but you gotta take the self-deprecation opportunity. You know, now that I think about it, mom probably knew what was up, that woman was probably crazy.

At least you would have made it to the Jerry Springer Show!

:)

I actually had some friends on that show years ago. They flew us all out and I got to see what goes on backstage. And it was all rigged for all those out there who were unsure (which would be nobody).:zeitung_lesen:

This isn't too believable but one of my guys who works under me was on that show with his ex-wife.

He thinks is it funny!

I leaned towards the Libertarian side from my grandfathers, both dyed in the wool New England Yankees. Old Timers, not the average view of Northerners on this board.

Live and Let Live, do whats right by you and your family to make for a good life. Defend your rights til the end, and fear anyone who would take said rights from you.

I was drawn to the GOP based on financial reason, mainly, because why the fort should 1 cent of my state or federal tax go to anyone who is not disabled and chooses not to work. The Army is always hiring, as are a plethora of entry level jobs, or even menial jobs.

So I have become a Republitarian. I abhor the fact that the GOP has kowtowed to the hardline Christian population, the Anti Gay Marriage crusade is stupid, as if 2 guys or girls get married, my house aint burning down, and, as someone said on the board that i remember, thats between them and the Big Fella. I'd rather see gays get married than have the govenrment pay for dope fiends to get methadone so they don't die from withdrawal.

Up until about 2-3 years ago, I was a big defender of marriage being between 1 man/1 woman. But after Britany (sp) Spears and realizing that this country has a 60% or so divorce rate, I came to the conclusion that it makes no sense to defend the sanctity of marriage as an instituition when heterosexuals don't even respect it. I've given up on that issue...

Well, you are correct. The "stupid and lazy" would have a lot to fear in an Ayn Rand world. Those two groups of people are the lowest common denominator of humanity. Instead of being brought down to their level, we should be striving to bring society up to where they are "educated and productive"...

I never got the feeling that she really cared about improving those that did not meet her standards of acceptable human beings. Note that I said stupid and lazy by "their standards" ...

She would have probably countered that if the altruists are so concered about the stupid and the lazy, then they have the free will to reach out and educate and motivate them.

And being lazy is all about free will... (not so much stupid)

I just felt colder and more disconnected the more I looked into objectivism. Maybe I missed some light at the end of the tunnel before I turned around and went back...but I don't personally think so.

Ok it was a girl I dated at one point, she had a "girlfriend" (bisexual) and they went on the show and got my travel and expenses taken care of for me. I would challenge any male on Volnation to turn down a mini-vacation with two bisexual females. The producers did try to get me on the show but there was no way in hell I was going to put myself through all the ridicule that would follow.

So you turned a woman into a bisexual?

No she was my ex but she never really got over it I guess. We hung around for probably 7 years after I broke up with her. She introduced me to her girlfriend and the rest is history as they say.

To the original topic, my father is quite liberal. Especially considering he was a cop for 30 some odd years. His father was a die hard Dem. and made my father promise he would never vote Republican again after he found out that my dad voted for Goldwater.

My political beliefs were formed a lot by my father, and I still lean a bit more left of center than a lot of you guys. Now that I am a "grown up" and pay my own bills, I find myself more and more economically conservative.

I like to call myself a Libertarian, but every time I take one of those damned internet quizzes it labels me a dem, probably based on my social liberalism. There is a lot about both parties that I do not like.

True story: I showed up at my 10 year high school reunion and a girl that I graduated with whom I had dated about 5 years before the reunion showed up with a girl date.

I had great fun riffing George Castanza that night saying "I turned her!"

She had started dating another guy after being a lesbian for a while the last I heard.

Most repubs and dems would agree with you on this.

I'm waiting for the day when one of the female posters on here steals a wife or gf away from a male poster... that would be Springer-esque. Wait a sec, where's my wife at?
