I don't recall a kid coming in with so much hype to the program in a long, long time. I hope he's every bit of what the experts say he is..... I'm like most though-- don't care who the man at QB winds up being if he leads UT to wins and championships. I'd be thrilled if it was Dobbs, but no more so if it was either Worley, Riley or Charlie High.

That's all because we haven't had a black qb in a "long, long time." People immediately see Cordarelle's legs, Bray's arm, and Albert Einstein's brain. I hope that VN fans are not disappointed, but it wouldn't be the first or last time.

Yep. This program is ruined for at least 20 years because ole Phil isn't still pushing the buttons.

GBO VFL

20 yrs? You jest, no? I'd wager Butch has things back to the championship level in 3-4. I love Phil for his time and service too, but come on bro.....

That's a good post 72. Lotta truth. I hope Dobbs is everything advertised, and if he is, he might win 3 Heismans, run for and win the governorship of Tennessee and split the atom in his spare time....the expectations for what seems to be a great kid appear a bit unrealistic to me. Would love to be wrong.

I actually don't remember this much hype ever for an incoming QB, mostly because I think it's the first time we've ever hyped a true freshmen as a potential starter from day one. Other QB recruits weren't seen that way but Dobbs is and he likely represents a change in how we view recruits as well as a wide open QB competition.

Perceptions are also changing about starting freshmen QBs as high school recruits are much more versed in football, better conditioned, and more developed than in years past.

I don't know if Dobbs is going to start as a true freshman but I trust that if he does it will be because he's ready not because he's been hyped like crazy.

I don't know and neither does anyone else.

Perfectly said. Just like in recruiting when people say so and so will be better than someone else or that a guy doesnt deserve a scholly. Nobody truely knows if a kid peaked in HS or just scratching the surface of his talent. I think Dobbs intelligence will really help him in reading defenses, learning the playbook and good decision making. Also has to have the intangibles like arm, ability to get out of trouble, making his progressions and making good decisions. Peterman has honestly been the guy I was pulling for when it was he and Worely but Dobbs and Ferguson have just as good of chance as the the other 2. Cant wait to see how the QB battle and WR battles shake out and also TE.
