This beats all I ever stepped in. The guy hasn't even had his first official practice and people are already giving him the starting job.

Hope he is like a Tajh Boyd. Remember the one that Kiffin ran off from UT.
Exactly. The one 5* QB we had and even though Kiffin didn't have any other QB in his back pocket, he told Boyd to hit the road, cause he didn't fit his golden surfer boy QB profile. That was his biggest cock-up, next to choosing Matt Simms over Cam Newton.

We could have had Newton, if we simply offered. Newton would have elevated the team enough to win 8-10 games that year. Instead we had to endure yet another year of suckage at the QB position. Hamilton Nuked this program with his two abysmal coaching hires.

He could have gotten Gary Patterson, instead of Kiffin. Patterson told local media that he had been interviewed for the job, but Hamilton didn't care about coaches with a record of winning and beating teams that had more talent. He wanted name recognition over wins.

In both cases, neither Kiffin, nor Dooley had a resume as a head coach that belonged in the SEC, much less a storied program such as this.

Mike Hamilton...the virus that just won't go away.

I don't recall a kid coming in with so much hype to the program in a long, long time. I hope he's every bit of what the experts say he is..... I'm like most though-- don't care who the man at QB winds up being if he leads UT to wins and championships. I'd be thrilled if it was Dobbs, but no more so if it was either Worley, Riley or Charlie High.

It's going to be Ferguson, but not this year, or maybe even next. I think Peterson will end up being the starter by the Florida game.

well in all fairness to lil kiffie...he knew we had matt simms in the bag. And if our line had only been capable of containing the defensive pass rush for like 35 seconds he could've been great. coulda/woulda/shoulda

Thoughts on Dobbs getting the nod at QB:
Dobbs Is The Answer For Tennessee

He lost me with this one:

Nathan Peterman redshirted last year and is more of a pro-style quarterback that fits the previous regime's offense. Riley Ferguson is the other scholarship quarterback the Vols have on roster. Ferguson is another pro-style quarterback seemingly behind the others and should redshirt.

Peterman was recruited by Jones for Jones' offense.

Ferguson is incredibly mobile, and (again) was recruited by Jones.

This is a good problem to have for a new HC, and everyone of these guys has a compelling case, at this point, to grab the job.

It helps that the OLine is stout.

Let the games begin.

Anybody else read the article? The writer has totally blocked out that Doolfus was even a head coach here, guess technically he was the head coach.
Anyways ....
I too have blocked out the last 3 seasons.
New chapter coming up!
Go big orange!!!

I like the idea of Dobbs because of how smart he is. Maybe not this year, but I guess I'd be happy if he surprised us. With the additions of Russell Wilson, RG3, and that 49rs qb that will not be named, the NFL may be on the cusp of a mobile (not run first, but who can scramble) type of quarterback. I would love if UT could carve out a niche for top recruits who fit that description.

I hope the best player starts this year. If that's Dobbs, I hope that it doesn't mean the other guys suck...

Who ever the qb ends up being is going to have to quickly learn, fit/run/sustain cbj system. With everything we've all heard about Dobbs mastering his hs playbook in a day, it's not hard to see why most see him as the guy. As we all know, It's going to be a very demanding job leading this fast paced, no huddle offense. The last thing we need is someone at the helm having mental breakdowns, killing long, fast drives. Dobbs' brain may be the only one Who can soak it all in right now.

I know Worley hasn't really had a chance, but when he has, he didn't look very well. I remember when we had Simms and didn't see Bray a lot, but when we seen him, we knew he should've been our qb. Worley may have had the numbers in hs, but I don't see him leading this team. Yes he even has the seniority, but if this was Jim Bob Cooters class would he take it in seniority also? Lol

Just thought I'd make a rebuttal thread to the Dobbs one. But still why is everyone forgetting this kid.

Who the f&ck knows?!!!

All of these threads are pretty damn dumb considering the coaches aren't on here sharing their thoughts.

Time will tell what is the answer. Right now, I'm real happy to have all four of them. They all won't succeed at UT on the same level but I wish them all well.
