Who is the best defensive minded coach left on the board?

Yea that was an extremely important hire and Hamilton went with a name and I think if Lane had promised Monte was coming I'm not sure he would have hired him. But I will say that staff with both Kiffins, Coach O, Lance Thompson, Eddie Gran, Chaney and Gruden others was possibly from atleast a recruiting staff was the best college staff ever assembled. Again just from a recruiting standpoint. But that day we offered Dooley we also interviewed Sumlin I wonder what our state of football is under Kevin Sumlin?

Correct.

That was an insanely great recruiting staff.

Everybody gives hamilton hell for it, but dam who could have turned it down. Not me, and we were only paying kiffy like 2mil

Majors was more important IMO.

Not sure if anyone else was up to that rebuilding job - took 9 years.

May have been but i really started following it when I was 10 so it was the last few yrs of Majors and the start of Fulmwrs that I really remember the most.

And you're reading way too little into the hire of CS

Not sure what your talking about. This is the biggest hire in possibly UT football history. I want Strong and think he would do great. Jmo, everyone has their opinion and choice for the job

Most assuredly better off than it is now.

Honestly, i hated the Kiffin hire, felt we should have went much bigger. The staff he put together was all world though. He did pretty good considering what Fulmer left him. (example) O-line.

I actually had to google DD, and that was all it took, i remember saying to myself "wtf? this guy?"

Strong is the best choice (of the realistic names being discussed) after Gruden IMO.

Recruiting is key for the UT job - I think Strong would do well.

See, i don't get that. How will we know who is the realistic names unless we offer other larger candidates?

We cannot settle with this hire imo.

Personally, Fedora is the better option than Strong imo.

Humm actually Petrino hasnt recruited anywhere he has gone. He has just gotten the most out of his players. So try again

Thats a little irrelevant. Petrino and his staff recruited very well at Louisville. Strong hasn't so far.

Strong is not that good of an option to be honest. He should be no higher than 4th on our currenr list, behind Fisher, Patterson, and Gundy.

Edit: actually 5th. Behind Fedora as well.

Strong is an estabished SEC DC that has 3 years as HC showing improvement every year. He was DC for Holtz at SCar '99-'01. He was DC for Zook and Meyer '02-'09 and named interim HC at Florida.

(24-15) .615 overall
(10-2) .833 2012

Fedora was good at So. Miss and has not been bad at UNC. He was OC for Zook at Florida '02-'04...Zook fired after 3 mediocre seasons with top tier SEC talent.

(42-23) .646 overall
(8-4) .667 2012

So, why do you think Fedora is better than Strong?

1) Offense > Defense?

2) Fedora can recruit SEC talent and Strong can't?

3) You don't like CS?

4) ACC > Big East

5) Other?

Fedora runs a balanced spread attack, i think if you pair him with a good DC, the possibilities are endless. He has a very impressive resume.

Nothing against Strong at all, just think the job is to big for him at this current time.

What makes you think Fedora could handle it?

Why is the job not too big for him?

Like i posted earlier, the thing that bugs me about strong is, why didn't UF offer him the HC job, he was there from 02-09 the lone holdover from the Zooker days.

I have watched NC a lot this year, and i think Fedora could handle the job, he is managing a disaster at NC and did well with it this year.

I could be wrong, who knows.

Besides that, I feel sorry for the guy when I hear him speak.
He is either extremely shy or just simply not too bright.

This is not the time for UT to prove a point or for affirmative action.

So the only reason we'd hire him is to prove a point and because he's black? He's qualified enough not to warrant that statement even if you don't like him.

No I just believe the guy has to interview terribly
You know suck at answering questions

How can UT put this man into this fire?

It would be inhumane.

Imagine Sal as the HC...

Between Strong and Fedora I think solid points could be made for either. Both have unexplainable losses both have some ok wins. Both have been succesful. For me it comes down to the fact that Defense wins championships. UT was a juggernaut on offense this year in many games and still had crap to show for it. We need a defensive minded coach not only for our immediate issues but also our championship aspirations.
