I am convinced that just because you win a national championship it doesn't mean you are a great coach. You obviously have a lot of talent on your team, but I think a lot of times luck is a huge factor. I can't think of every coach who has won a NC, but just off the top of my head, here is probably my top 3. This should bring out all the Fulmerites.

1. Les Miles
2. Phil Fulmer
3. Larry Coker

Who do you all think?

Miles is the luckiest coach alive--he did it with another coach's recruits. Fulmer won it with his own recruits.

I almost put Coker at #2. I know Miles is still at the place he won the NC, but his time is limited, IMO.

What about Spurrier or Pete Carroll?? With the talent they had accumulated on their clubs, both should have snagged MULTIPLE National Championships while at Florida and USC...

I definitely don't think Spurrier or Carroll would be on this list. Carroll actually got credit for 2 national championships even though one was only out right and the only one that counts, IMO. The one where they were granted #1 by the AP and given a share of the NC along with LSU is ridiculous. They didn't play for it therefore didn't earn it, IMO. However, I still don't think Carroll is over rated. Spurrier either. He still has managed to beat Fulmer twice, even at USCe.

the AP title was around long before the BCS and will be around after. To say it's not legit is a little crazy

Mark Richt.

Wait, nevermind. That has as much chance of happening as me marrying Marisa Miller. Carry on, ladies and gentlemen, I was merely attempting to bring mirth and laughter.

I suppose a case could be made for LaVell Edwards as well if we go back longer. Possibly most-undeserving at least.

I don't know how you could list a coach who fielded top 10 teams on a fairly regular basis for an extended period of time as "worst" or "overrated," whether it is Fulmer or Brown.

To me, Fulmer really damaged his reputation the last 5-6 years of his career. Mac Brown is still competitive every year and played in the NC game again last year.

Coker is over rated with 2 or 3 National titles?

Kiffin
Miles
Pete Carroll
Jim Tressel (sp?)

How many does Coker have?

Kiffin?

Miles has one with two losses and massively overwhelming talent.

How many does Tressel have? Did he beat a dramatically better team to get it?
