Who is worse? Juwan Howard or Penny Hardaway,

Don't put your hands on someone that's the lesson. Had Gard not put his hands on Howard then it's on Howard. But he did and it escalated after that.
You’re crazy man. If Coward does that out in public and not a sports setting he’s fired immediately and taken to court on top of that. The lesson to be learned is to control your anger and be a decent human in society. You don’t just go throwing hands after the guy respected your request to remove his hands off him. This is a guy that literally told another coach “I’ll f’n kill you” just last year. The sooner Coward realizes he need mental help, the better off society will be because that will be one less lunatic out there.

You can’t excuse Garb’s arm grab when it’s clear there was already tension.

You also can’t excuse Howard’s response to his arm being grabbed.

The situation could have been handled better by both parties.
Gard took his hands off Coward, per Coward’s request. This is on Coward 100%. Dude needs mental help.

Sorry, don’t put your hands on people. Not a fan. You may be cool with people freely touching you, not everyone is wired that way.

Was there tension prior to that happening? Is Greg Gard partially at fault because his tension-detecting radar wasn’t working? It’s a tenuous exercise to even try to make an equivalence between the two coaches here

Gard REMOVED his hands. How hard is that to understand? So you’re saying if someone taps you on the shoulder out in public to get your attention it’s ok to start throwing hands? Get outta here with that nonsense.

You keep saying that like it makes it valid. We all saw it.

If someone provokes out in public under scenario and I avoid but then proceeds to grab my arm. He would get stood down.

You’ve seriously lost your marbles. There was no provoking. Gard removed his hands per Coward’s request. Can I record you doing exactly what Coward did? I would to see if it holds up in court.

And you’re saying it’s ok to hit another person that didn’t even grab your arm? Got it.

After he got stood down he removed his hands. We see if differently. Didn't ask you to agree or disagree.

Though some coaches may really hate unwanted touching. Look at Spoelstra’s reaction. Can tell he really hates it

Pretty standard to greet someone in business, friendship. Again go back to "read the room" I stated earlier. Nice try
“In business?”. That’s what this is. They’re supposed to be professionals. Howard is not only unprofessional but he’s an irrational hothead. The level of excuse making here is absurd.

It’s not entirely on Howard.

Howard’s reaction to Gard grabbing his arm is on Howard, as it was over the top, but Gard is not blameless here. He played a role in escalating the situation.
Yeah you have to give him fault. I know its movies. But remember when the Billy Beane(Brad Pitt) had that scout in Moneyball disagreement. He says something to effect I am not going to fire you Grady. Then the scout put hands on his shoulders smugly. Then he says now I will. Yeah putting hands on another person beyond the respectful shake hands or back or shoulder pats can't be disregarded. Clearly Howard escalated it but I agree Gard should have gotten like a game suspension at least.

You seemed confused on a arm grab and a greet. Not the same.

Only I’m not trying to make an equivalence at all.

I’ve stated earlier Howard’s reaction was over the top and disproportionate to Gard grabbing his arm.

And yes, there was tension prior to the arm grab. Clearly Howard was pissed and didn’t want to shake Gard’s hand.

No rules saying you have to shake hands

I'd like to see the full view of this photo, as it appears to be cropped. To me, it looks like Spoelstra is upset with an official's call and Howard (his assistant coach at the time) is trying to deescalate the situation. As one can see, both coaches are looking in the same direction

Having made that observation, that does not mean I approve of either coach's actions in the handshake line (especially Howard smacking the assistant). Howard definitely deserved the suspension and fine (the league possibly could have added another 10 grand), but Gard deserved and received punishment as well.

This was just last season and Coward didn’t have an issue in the line then. So what changed? Oh yeah he lost… He’s perfectly fine whenever he wins but he’s a sore loser whenever his team doesn’t get it done. Gard even slapped him on the left shoulder. No punches thrown then…
