Who takes over at Alabama?

Huge. Didn’t think he would leave Washington.
His stock has never been higher and he has to take advantage of it.

On the bad side for us: he is an excellent coach. Innovative game plans. Innovative offense.

On the good side for us: DeBoer has never seen the coaching pressure of the SEC. The recruiting pressure. The week in and out game plan pressure of an SEC season. His success will depend on a fantastic defensive coordinator. Bama’s history will help his recruiting but maintaining it will be a pressure cooker for him.

Sounding like DeBoer. Not too many of the west coast guys have succeeded in the SEC have they?

Kiffin. And he is an offense first type guy like DeBoer
Wasn't Harsin Mormon? Idaho has a significant Mormon population. I have wondered if that was not a problem for him. Not that anyone cared whether he Mormon or not, but culturally may have posed problems. DeBoer may not be, but he will be coming from a radically different culture from the Southeast.

Obviously he is a very good coach. But can he adapt to this? Kelly seems to be having issues, but on the other hand the GOAT was not a southerner. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.

I’m honestly not sure about Harsin. I just know from assistants I’ve talked to that think the difference is huge.

DeBoer has one heck of a record as a head coach.
… but some serious questions as a recruiter. This last year’s Washington team won close games with high-end QB/WR talent, mid-level defense, and super seniors mostly recruited by previous coaches. The roster reset coming to Washington is going to be brutal. But DeBoer knows ball.

Gotta wonder how long it will be before he questions his own sanity for jumping into the deep end on this one. Not sure what he was making at UW, but I'd have leveraged the interest for a raise and stayed put. No way I touch the bama job right after Saban leaves. You cannot win enough. Mistake on his part IMO.

We shall, see but I am more comfortable with him there than I am Kiffin. Downside is, SEC has yet another big time coach. Ole Miss would not have drawn that caliber of a coach I don’t think.

With what Saban has done, I think bama will continue being bama with any decent coach. What I'd like to avoid is UF getting off the mat any sooner than necessary. Nah, prefer to avoid that pairing.

Yeah definitely surprised Napier is still around, and that is fine by me. What Saban has done with the program and their brand is definitely sustainable for the foreseeable future, but I I’m not sure every coach could do what he did with what he had last season. He is also the master at 2nd half adjustments. Recruiting? Sure. My hope is for a slight drop off at Bama and a continued improvement on our end :)

What's sad is it only took Bama 2-3 days to get their coach...BUT Grudemonium 2012 & 2017 were momentous times on VolNation!

Well, let's not give them too much credit. Saban is 72 after all. Plus this new NIL/portal era clearly isn't something he embraces. Any AD worth his salt would see the writing on the wall and have a top 5 list of candidates that they'd turn to as a parachute. Sickens me to say it, but uga comes out on top with this one. It was suggested before, but it's crystal clear now. UGA is the king of college football. What a revolting development.

and there are absolutely no hold ups to taking the Bama job except for following the GOAT.

Best conference.
Great school, tons of support the nation over.
History of winning, even 2023 won the SEC and made it to the playoffs.
Money won't hold up a hire, and assistant coaches will be easy to convince to come to Bama.
the state of Alabama has a surprising amount of talent
No scandal that leads to a lot of coaching changes.
along the same lines, no NCAA investigation to worry about.
Great team still around, including the QB.
