Who takes over at Alabama?

According to Chris Low it won't be Lanning( As we Know), won't be Dabo nor will it be Kiffin. The 2 he's hearing is Deboer and Norvell. I'm fine with both of those!

McElroy said this morning it won’t be :

1. Kiffin -past “activities” are unacceptable
2. Dabo - not a fit for the job
3. Ryans- doesn’t have a good relationship with Alabama.

I’m just repeating with McElroy said.

Close friend of mine who runs in college football circles - not a public figure so nobody would know him - tells me Saban is retiring at the end of the season. I trust him as he doesn’t share these types of things without solid info.

When it happens, who do you think Bama goes after? Dabo? Sarkisian? Someone else with SEC experience like Lane Kiffin or Dan Lanning? Brent Venables? Or do they go the NFL route?

Chris Low said the same thing!

You mean to tell me they wouldn’t welcome Joey Freshwater with open arms?

Anyone thinking that Saban having an I office in the stadium might be a complication for a new hire?

It can. Bob Stoops was still very involved with the OU program after he "retired" and turned it over to Riley. Even if he wasn't making decisions, there still was a cloud that hung over the program.

I think that's why Mike Stoops lasted as long as he did before Lincoln finally let him go.

some local freakout that it could be current OC Rees.

the whole "saban will remain involved with the team" seems like a big deterrent to taking the job for a big name coach

hope the gumps still have to pay the rest of saben contract. they should but they are gumps

Gotta be honest....in today's NIL world, the game is different. It's no longer a game of "development". It's a game for mercenaries. This is Kiffin's world now. He's THE perfect coach for this NIL era. He might be scum, but this dude is as happy as a pig in slop with how college football functions today. If there's one guy out there who wouldn't shy away from following a legend like Saban, it's Kiffin. Given the bama history with the "rules", he's the perfect fit at the perfect time for the bama clan.

I wouldn't want to see Deboer or Leipold. I also wouldn't want to see Meyer or Kiffin because they would have great initial success, but the upside there is they will probably leave Bama in a worse position then when they got there and they have scandal written all over them.
Meyer would make me laugh because he would be a train wreck. He has not coached college football since the NIL and the transfer portal were active. It would give him heart problems before he ever stepped on the field.

We saw how long he lasted managing egos and players who were paid in the NFL. He’s also the one coach who Bama fans would not lower their expectations or give a honeymoon too because if you hire Urban Meyer, you expect him to compete for a natty next year. Anything less would be a failure and his window would be closing. The Meyer era in the SEC happened because he was a better coach than Fulmer and Richt.

At one point, he probably could’ve taken over at a school like Notre Dame and still been successful, but they wouldn’t hire him now after his personal scandals.
