I'm not a big fan of Hart, but I think most people's criticism of Cheek is unfounded. By all measurables, he is doing an outstanding job. He has likely turned down several lucrative offers to stay here. Most fans, unfortunately, see everything through the important but very narrow lens of Tennessee football.

His flagship program was to make UT a Top 25 research institution. By all measurables we have regressed on his watch.

I think we should do it now. If not then we might have some stability and good recruits. We need to nip the problem now and further plunge into mediocrity. Maybe even go after Idaho's coach? I heard that he owns a vacation home in Pigeon Forge. :rolleyes:

Fans of other SEC teams want Butch fired. They can read the tea leaves. Theres a new sheriff in town and his name is Reggie Hammond ... I mean Butch Jones.

Fire Butch? I really think we're just a couple recruiting classes away from taking over as the Dominant team in the SEC. Of I'm biased but so what.

I think two seasons will give a good sample of CBJ's coaching prowess in many areas. However unless he goes 1 and 11 or 0 and 12 next year he is virtually guaranteed 3 years.

I know we have this staff for three yrs but losing to candy after a bye week undefendable by anyone n then if we follow that up with a kent loss n cbj support will decrease with each loss in 2014..

6 n 6 was a step in right direction IMO 5 n 7 they underachieved n if only 4 wins then they failed n yr one.

I like his recruiting but nothing else I've seen has me full butch.

Amazing thread…..We have an unrealistic instant gratification, live- in-the-past mindset fan base What we do have is the same team as last year….minus the big play-makers. What else did you expect for this season? Talent’s not there (regardless of coaching) and it will be at least 2 years before we’re competitive with the top tier. Next year it’ll be a little better….3rd year we go for the gold!!!

I could not disagree more. Butch chose to bring his staff with him and while that seemed admirable at the time this is not the big east, or div II this is the SEC. This is the deep end where the big boys play and it seems to me that the oc and dc are overwhelmed. I would have agreed to replace both after Sat. night but after calming down some I think they deserve at least another year. As far as people saying we don't have athletes that's bull.... Every year we send several to the NFL, we got dealt some tough obstacles with some injuries but the coaching staff did a poor job of adjusting to our strengths. We have a phenomenal class coming in and if they can't win with that then it's time to give someone else a shot. BTW before I get flamed with the " we're young, give them time" argument take a look around the landscape and you will see other programs winning with freshmen and underclassmen.

I have never said fire Butch but I want to see the OC & DC replaced. I always thought Butch could of surrounded himself around better coaches especially Jancek. This is not even close to being the best coaching staff in the country, heck not even in the state.
I think we might of hired the right man to lead Tn back but we will know for sure in 2 more years.

I understand the folks that question coordinators; however, look at what the "hodge podge" staffs of Dooley & Kiffin looked like. Jones's staff know his system.
Example: he wants guys to rally to pick up teammates who are tackled/fall out of bounds.

Guys who have coached with him know these expectations for his style of play. A hodge podge staff won't be able to fully instill his mentality.

I'd rather our head coach NOT have to "coach" his coaches.

Just my humble opinion.

I would love to not have our current administration and coach. Firing now that he's here after this little time is impractical and unworkable and much of the excuse making is steeped in our unwillingness to face that we're stuck with it. Hope is powerful, but it doesn't change the reality.
