If the vols have over 300,000 fans , then just think what small amount of negative vols are post here. I rest my case

The fact that it came out yesterday that the team did not lift for over three months last season tells me Butch did as best as he probably could this year with what he had. Three months of not lifting or working out is mind boggling! While our players were taking days off, everyone else was getting better. Throw in the fact that a lot of our players are not even worthy of starting in the SEC, and I am ok with what Jones accomplished this year. I would have loved to have gone to a bowl, but he was able to upset a top 12 opponent this year. Once he gets rid of this losing mentality our team has taken on and gets his own players in, I am confident he will turn it around.

Just like a back up QB, the next guy will get it done.
That has worked out great in the last few hires.

It is comments like this that start the arguments.

It isn't enough to agree that although they stank it up this year but they should get 3 years before making a final judgment... Someone has to make one of these complete blind faith statements that are just as annoying to some of us as criticism is to some of the rest.

Just so I am clear... you propose to stick with someone who doesn't work even when there IS a chance the next guy might be great?

I'm not writing Jones off but if he doesn't show something big by year three... he needs to go.

I find it odd that some want to say Franklin is a great coach (I think he's better than average) but Jones is awful because he lost to Vandy.

Do you think Franklin is a good coach?

Actually I'm saying I don't have enough info on Jones to have a final opinion. He's done some things well and been bad in other situations.
I know a few people who make their living scouting or coaching football. 70%ish of those people think he will win big here. I will let you know what I think after next year.

I think many think Franklin is a good coach because he gets more from less. He over achieves. Whereas, many think Butch underachieved this year.

I think he is a good coach in the role he is in. He is a master at motivating players with chips on their shoulders. I think if he jumps to a bigger job, he might not be as successful as he is at Vandy. I could be wrong though. I can't stand the guy, but it is pretty remarkable what he has been able to do there. I know their schedule is soft, but it has always been soft before he got there.

Just about any coach is going to be given 3 years unless there are extenuating circumstances. But this season left alot to be desired and if major improvement isn't shown then 3 years will be here before you know it.

Most talk show pundits are predicting franklin will be coaching somewhere else in '14. Coach shopping begins after the bowl season. :hi:

But I do hope people realize we aren't having anywhere near that kind of turnaround in one year. Butch is doing great so far but we have a long way to go. Next year is probably another 5-7 type of year. I just want us to be realistic. Saban inherited a lot more talent than Butch did. It's not even close.

If Coach Jones does not get 5 full seasons to rebuild this program. The program will be down for 10 to 15 years.

Stability is the most important thing that this program needs at this time. The talent will come if he is given an opportunity to clean up the stench that was left from Fulmer's sleeping, Kiffin's nonsense, and Dooley's cluelessness.:hi:

Franklin outcoached Jones... and Jones had ALOT more athletic talent to work with.

I don't like Franklin but he has done WAY more with WAY less. Jones has underachieved the talent on his roster by 1-3 losses depending on what happens at UK.

If Jones does not prove he can coach and win in the SEC ABOVE the talent level of his team then he cannot be kept longer than 3 years or the program will decline more.

UT depends on out of state talent and every class is not going to be filled with talented legacy players. If he hasn't won 9 games by year three then every coach pursuing those same oos recruits will say he's done and can't coach... and they'll have a point. Regardless, it will be believable.

Because of UT's unique recruiting disadvantages, no coach can be kept longer than 3 years and 4 at the absolute max without proving they can compete for the East and SEC.

As difficult as it is to take, cause I'm not pleased at all with how the season has progressed, I think most reasonable fans know this.

As a fan, I'll very begrudgingly accept another poor record next year if the blowouts come to a screeching halt and the team is competitive week in and week out, and we (gulp) beat vaginabilt and Ky.

That being said, virtually every head coach who's won a championship in the SEC in recent history has won at least 9 gms his second year.

I disagree. Franklin has 4 years of his kids. Sadly overall team speed was better at vandy this year. We played a lot of youth. That will pay off in year 3.

Saying Franklin out coached Jones is a streach. Not to long ago Vandy was favored over a Cincy team and lost. Did Jones out coach Franklin that day?
