Who Wants To Fire Butch?

Who Wants Butch Fired?

I would love to not have our current administration and coach. Firing now that he's here after this little time is impractical and unworkable and much of the excuse making is steeped in our unwillingness to face that we're stuck with it. Hope is powerful, but it doesn't change the reality.

reality is no one knows how this is going to work out. Reality is you were on here guaranteeing Butch wouldn't be able to recruit at a high level and are being proven to be dead ass wrong.

Clearly. We're half a year into a legacy class and he's living up to what the cash a facilities offer him. The results have sucked, we've underachieved and we have regressed in multiple areas, but you keep telling yourself that recruiting is killing it. Obtw, tell me about QB, OL and DL, THE three places that make the difference in winning and losing.

Would he somehow be wrong if he told himself this?

Butch is the stepping stone back to relevance, not excellence. (IMO). Great recruiter and will fill our cubberd with sec talent. However, I feel as if he won't be "the guy" that brings in championships expected. The next guy though.... Watch out for the next guy. Remember how it felt to not land that big name coach? That won't happen next time around if, and only if, the recruits keep coming in and loading us with better talent. Yes, an opinion and being wrong would be fine. I don't care how or when, I just want to get back on top again. Go Vols!!!!

I agree to have the mentality to never lose to Vandy. That's the only way a competitor should think. But if you think we should beat them no matter what players each team has, then no I don't agree with that. As bad as I hate to admit it, they have more playmakers. Plain and simple.

What playmakers? Matthews? They threw the guy 47 screen passes that we never defended. They scored 14 points and 7 of those came on the last drive.

Other than him who off that team is better than our guys?

I still say he got outcoached. Shining example lane had 9 carries.

Amazing thread…..We have an unrealistic instant gratification, live- in-the-past mindset fan base What we do have is the same team as last year….minus the big play-makers. What else did you expect for this season? Talent’s not there (regardless of coaching) and it will be at least 2 years before we’re competitive with the top tier. Next year it’ll be a little better….3rd year we go for the gold!!!

Butch is the one that set the bowl game goal.

What people need to understand is that CBJ needs player to fit his system. What people DONT understand is that Dooley didn't have a system and just recruited "willy-nilly" and now CBJ has to work with a hodgepodge of players. However this doesn't explain the QB situation and WR's forgetting how to catch a ball..

Serious question.
I see many people lash out at anyone that criticizes anything about this staff by claiming the critic wants Butch fired. Can anyone name the people who have wanted him fired? I mean someone who has actually posted these words? If you can name them and back it up, please post it up, or if you feel that way man up to it and post.
Honestly, outside of obvious trolls, I haven't seen anyone calling for Butch's head.

:eek:lol:This is too crazy. It's like hanging a man without a fair trial.
How about we wait 3-4 yrs before we hang him.:salute:
GO VOLS!

No sane person wants to fire him. He is probably the most amazing recruiter in the nation right now (however, our recruiting ranking has to drop next year due to fewer schollies being available). I will say that I've been REALLY disappointed with much of the in-game coaching. A lot of it rests on execution but the coaches have to take part of the blame for that as well.:hi:

It takes time to adapt to a new system, new coaches and a new philosophy. Some players adapt easily and others don't. To play at the highest level, 100% of the team must be on the same page, which is congruent with a winning attitude and leads to a winning team. Obviously, this didn't happen this year.

We must not forget that this coaching staff inherited a team with few playmakers and little or no confidence. It would have been nice to see Butch wave the magic wand and turn around this team in year one, but it didn't happen. In fact, this rarely happens with a team in as bad a shape as this team was in.

If Butch is the coach that I think he is, we'll see a noticeable improvement next year. The quality of the incoming players will help, but more importantly the team will begin to be infused and radiate with a winning attitude. I'll call it mental fission. When this happens, we'll all enjoy the fireworks!

OP, many are calling for the OC/DC to be fired.

Firing either of his coordinators would be absolutely the wrong move right now. That would send a signal to not only the commits, but those recruits CBJ is still pursuing in this class, that there are problems in his system. Surefire way to lose those recruits still on the board and lose some of the commits as well.

Some of us always seem to be looking for "the next guy."
I've seen nothing so far that indicates to me Butch won't be "that guy."

Butch is the one that set the bowl game goal.

When he set that goal I doubt seriously he thought he was going to have to pull the RS off of an 18 year old QB and start him the last 4 games of the season. As average as Worley was, I firmly believe with him we beat Vandy and UK and attain Jones' goal of reaching a bowl. There was a reason Jones kept saying Dobbs and Ferguson were't ready when the majority of VN were questioning his coaching ability for not starting either Peterman or one of the two 18 year olds over Worley. There is obviously a real good reason why he is the coach of the Vols and VN's keyboard coaches are not.

Financially you couldn't afford to fire him now. You have to give him at least 3 years of his contract. Based on what I've seen I don't think he will make it past 3 years.

As someone who has 'fired' quite a few people in my career I have no interest in calling for anyone to be fired...it was always a gut wrenching experience for me...

My thoughts RE Jones are and have always been:
1.we could have done a lot better in selecting a coach
2.I don't fault Jones for taking the job..
3.I can't make an assessment on his many of the aspects of his job performance...IE X's and O's, teaching abilities) because of the limited tenure, I'm not close enough to the program....but I do have concerns with some of the building blocks (blocks, not bricks:))of any successful person...thinks like his lack of intelligence...his lack of vision....he appears to have replaced those two (2) with an more traditional and rudimentary behavior such as his obsession with reciting lots of colorful 'sayins' while attempting to appear in deep and determined thought while doing so.... and many fans, almost all on here once again have bought into it the same way they did with Kiffin and Dooley....

With butch's career on the line, will he be loyal to his current coaching staff that followed him to Tennessee, or look for someone with better XO strategy and the ability to adjust when needed? I think he will give them all one more year.
