Who we drop and who we get for our #1 class (merged)

I do not think we are that far apart here.

If you are saying that because we are keeping Jose Jose, Fulton and Pair (who I may be wrong about us dropping as everyone more in the know than me says I am) we cannot get a number 1 class I understand where you are coming from.

I am not wanting to be the go to guy in recruiting, I am wanting those who know most about recruiting in our fanbase, the people who other fans ask about how we are doing as a program to believe our coaches are going to give us more.

When I was making my list of OL including EE guys, I said we would never miss so much to have to take Chuckie Curry. If someone had told me then that we would reject TJ Leifheit, I would have said that they were mistaken and I would have been wrong.

At Florida if you go there the next 4 years and win an NC as a defensive player, you are going to lose your coordinator and you will have 1 NC in 4 years, which will make you semi loved in Gainesville as a part of the slightly less successful than Tebow crew. You will also sit on the bench your whole freshman year at almost all of the positions.

At Alabama they have lots more depth than we do as well. Their third string players at several spots on defense are better than our starters.

What I am saying is lets all be realistic, but lets realize that realistic for a staff that outcoached Saban and outcoached Meyer and thoroughly humiliated Richt.

Realistic for the best recruiting staff in the country.
Realistic for a staff that turned Janzen, and Bryce, and Teague, and Nuke and is playing all of them. Realistic for this moment in our programs history when kids can be a part of something special with a young coach who will win alot and then put them in the NFL.

I do not think we will get everyone we are pursuing because it is a numbers issue. I think if you look at who we have cooled at pursuing, we will finish with 7-8 guys who are great, not good.

That does not make me a go to guy, it makes our staff the best in the country.

If I was a UK basketball fan and someone was saying Pearl and Cal were about equal recruiters I would be frustrated. I thank God that we do not have Worldwide We$ and the Nike pimps and whores around our program, but the fact is that Cal can get 3 guys who each would be our highest rated. I still hope we get T Harris, but Bruce Pearl cannot hope to have a class like Cal had last year.

In football however, we need to know that the Fulmer era is over. We are in a new time and it will be a great one!

Thanks for the civility in your response. Go Vols!

You may have hit the nail on the head. I don't think any of us truly know what realistic is for our staff right now. Sure, they pulled together a great class last year in a few months, but I tend to think some of that had to due with hype of the new hire and with our depth issues. Things look a little more stable this year and none of us know what to expect right now. Lane and staff still haven't been on the job for a year yet...scary.

Looking forward...if we can take good players and make them great, and get them onto someone's roster on Sunday's, I seriously could see us turning into an NFL feeder like USC. I'm so sick and tired of losing games. It hurts me to my core...but it feels like we're winning recruiting battles left and right. There are some guys that I don't think we get, but I had never even considered JJ last year until Lane made the comment about "a kid from LA."

AND...As good of recruiters as the staff is....its looking like they may be even better coaches!

1-Tyler Bray
And this guy will be a stud for us. Parents moving to Knoxville to help him adjust as an EE. He is tall, he is awesome...

2-Matt Simms(JUCO)
Lots of people hate Chris. I think Matt has had enough time in the wilderness now. If he is a prima donna he will lose his attitude real quick under Kiffin or he will join Brandon Warren.

My update here is that I think the staff can afford to wait on making a backup QB decision until January and it will depend on how they think Bray looks.

3-Mack Brown/Marcus Lattimore/Michael Dyer/Lache Seastrunk
I am in the minority, but I think we get one of the big 4 names. I think MB stays UF, Lattimore to USCe and LS to LSU but I think we get Dyer. He will be the only RB in the class.

I really want Dyer...I am hoping it happens.

4-Channing Fugate FB
Had to be happy with 2 FB TD's on Saturday. He has more speed than the current guys I think, though not as fast as Bryson. Fullbacks take advantage of TD chances GoVolsXtra

5-Matt Milton
Early enrollee. He benefits from the extra time with Bray as one giant throws and another catches.

6-Markeith Ambles
Lord he was born an ambling man...

7-Demarco Cobbs
Went to Texas. This spot now goes to a similar size guy who is .3 seconds faster in the 40. Kenbrell Thompkins should be awesome for us.

8-Christian Green/Chris Dunkley/Kenny Stills/Kenny Shaw
(We take one more WR and it is a VERY good one)
I still think this happens. Maybe it is Dunkley but I should add that this slot could be taken by the other Green, James if we miss on the above.

9-Dakota Mosley
is a big reason why Dyer comes and provides us with our TE...
I think he announces on Thursday night or Friday.

10-John Cullen(JUCO)
Ready to start from day 1. Tackle
6'6
280 lbs
Could be announcing soon.

11-Chaz Green
Parents return to the hill to cheer for their son.
He is a tackle now, but could easily play Guard for us if needed.
6'6
290 with room to grow easily...
I love this kid and I doubly love we are taking him from UF.

12-Jawuan James
Mark Richt will take this one hard...
# Ht:6'6"
# Wt:293 lbs
5.3 40
He may announce this week. May be waiting to pull the trigger on a day that the coaches know we will vault to number 1.

-Morgan Moses(Prep)
Only if Cregg's evaluation is that he can get him to play fast enough and he is a solid LT for us...
# Ht:6'7"
# Wt:347 lbs
5.2 40
His weight will need to drop and may not be able to enough for us. That is why he is the guy from this list who is least likely to end up in Orange. If Groh is fired, I look for him to follow Latrell Scott if TN does not take him.

Sounds like he was too fat. He is not on the board.

13-Jose Jose
# Ht:6'2"
# Wt:355 lbs
# 40:5.53 secs
This guy is a guard. He also was a project, and he has lost weight already this season. He is an early enrollee and can lose more weight and get faster. His 40 time is irrelevant, but hitting the hole fast and not getting gassed from having a fat belly is important.

14-Zach Fulton
6'4,
Wt. 304
This guy is a guard and is the guy who the staff liked most at the summer camps. He should be a 4 star, not a 3. His family and Praters are close, but in the end that did not make the difference.

15 1 More OL.
D Robinson is a tackle 6'8 330,
Arie Kouandjio is a tackle 6'6 314 with a great prospect for a little brother and a strong friendship to Ego Ferguson who supposedly has eliminated us.
James Stone 6'5 297. Claimed to have a bad camp because he did not sleep well the night before this summer. Then got lit up by J Smith in the game against Ooltewah. Thing is that even if he does not have the lateral speed to get in front of Jacques, neither do most people. It could still end up being M. Pair

We will not have to reach for Chucky Curry IMO.

I now believe this spot will be Coleman or D Robinson. That will be the last OL.

16-Jacques Smith
A good at everything athlete. He will be beloved by all Vol fans by the time he finishes his career. He should be ranked higher but is already a national top 100 player.
# Ht:6'3"
# Wt:225 lbs

17-Corey Miller
# Ht:6'4"
# Wt:227 lbs
# 40:4.6 secs
# Bench Reps:23
# Vertical:34 inches
Top 30 player nationally...Who will be able to stop these two at DE?

18-1 more DE.
We are in it for T.J. Stripling/Corey Lemonier/Chris Martin to sway and if we get any we drop J.C. Copeland
is better than I though after looking at some video of him. It sounds like the staff loves him as well. It also sounds like we are not in it as much as I thought for the first 3 but I stand by that we would drop him for them.

19-Pat Harris (JUCO) will be here or he will not in December. Grades keep him out and we pick up a different DT and not a JUCO. Mr. Kelcy Quarles ditches the Gamecocks and we get him. This slot if Pat does not make it and Quarles is not coming is not used...

20-John Brown(JUCO)
Former 5 star Florida player. Glad to have him aboard.

21-This slot was R. Broussards but he cannot get into school. It goes to Mike Thornton or Jeffrey Whittaker or Garrison Smith who would be the number 1 target. If we had G Smith want to come, and Whittaker, I think we take both no doubt in my mind...I hope Jamal's old HS can send us one more beast.
I still like this pick.

22-Brandon Willis
An absolute future star.

23-Michael Taylor
Dramatically underrated LB

24-Jeff Luc
And the biggest message board star on Volnation award goes to the Haitian sensation!

25-Christian Jones/LaDarius Owens/Josh Shirley
Looks like this will be C Jones.

So Owens is a barner legacy and despite his friendship with Coach Thompson looks like he is staying put to me. If we had beaten Auburn it would have helped us. Now that we are losing Ralph Williams we want at least 2 of these guys but I think we end up with just Christian Jones...still he is an unreal athlete and based on need will probably play LB for us instead of another absurd DE, especially if we pull one of the DEs I discuss above.

26-Ted Meline
Who can play DB or WR.

27-Demetrius Wright/Cody Riggs/Dietrich Riley/Matt Elam
/Robey
If 19 slot is available we end up with 2 of these guys, if 19 is not available we end up with the one who comes soon. Elam is not coming IMO. If Elam and Wright wanted to come, of course we would take them. I think the staff A. Loves Elam to death and B. is not going to freak out depth wise if we do not sign multiple skilled safeties in this class.

28-Michael Palardy

I think the class ends at 28.

Except now with Ken Adams we are at 29...

Okay my update is this...I am messed up on our numbers now.

D Wright is a take if we get him...Dequan Menzie is a take if we get him. Ahmad Dixon is a take if we get him...that is 3 guys and I am out of room already for 2 of them. I already dropped Pair which lots of people say is definitely not going to happen. Even if I dropped Pat Harris (grades) I am still in a numbers crunch.

LV, Sab, Montrell, others what are your thoughts? Who on this list needs to drop to get us to the right numbers?

Do we take 4 more OL or 3?
Do we take a second QB (I do not think the staff decides that until January)?
Do we take a new DL commit?
Do Delvin Jones and Pat Harris both stick in this class further blowing my numbers up?
Do we still have 1 more WR coming as I suspect?

Thanks for the good feedback and insight you guys always provide.

We have 21 commits (not counting Menzie and Luc). We can sign a max of 30 if we absolutely have to. That leaves 9 more spots. There are gonna be 2 or 3 more decommits I would guess too. I don't see numbers being a problem at all...

LV how do we sign 30? 2 grayshirts? As I understand it we can only backcount 3 from the EE group and then sign 25 so that would give us 28.

Any guesses on the decommits?

If we end with Chaz Green, JaWuan James, Shon Coleman and Damien Robinson or J Cullen I do not think we would miss M Pair too much...

9 spots
1. J Luc
2. D Menzie
3. J James
4. C Jones
5. D Wright
6. A Dixon
7. Chaz Green
8. Jeff Whittaker
9. Dakota Mosley

Obviously we would take Dyer over Menzie etc, but I think my point is clear...

We are stuck with the great problem of too many excellent players wanting to come to TN this year.

X on Basilio says that if we get Chaz Green, John Cullen and JuWuan James we are done recruiting OL. Sounds strange to me. I think it is like CB. If Coleman or D Robinson wanted to come also, I have to believe we would lose Pair.

"3 or 4 current committs won't be in December and several other 4 to 5 star types will take thier place."

That is what Basilio is saying about the class now.
