You don't find many WR's who can throw up 335 as a Junior in high school...

that is very true. Has to be the strongest guy on the team. I bet he can do a Michael Irvin push off like nobody's business!

I think we're going to have to do just enough passing and a lot of talking if we're going to sell these WR's that they want to come here. I see Prater, Milton, and Ambles being the ones we have the best shot at. Trovon Reed, Chris Dunkley, I don't know if we can get those or not. It'd be amazing to be Wide Receiver U, but we can't expect that until we have a quarterback that can get them the ball.

Defense, I don't think we will have a problem selling. I think Luc might actually wind up here. I don't know why, but just the mere fact that we're gettting a visit when nobody thought you could even get him out of the state is amazing. I just got a good feeling about him. We're going to have a great line, great linebackers, and a great secondary, even after EB leaves.

But I think we are in good shape with at least JS or Rettig. I personally like either of these. I think we have enough offensive minds who have seen enough good quarterbacks to know what one should be, and who can coach one into being a good one. We don't need a Peyton Manning, we just need a game manager who can make plays and not throw it on the ground.

We are going to have an improved offensive line this year. I think anyone who watches game film from last year knows that the line was a MAJOR problem, if not THE major problem, so I'm pretty sure that the staff will not let that go unfixed.

Season could not get here any slower....Go Vols!

I know we have needs a lot more pressing needs but I love that kid to get him would be the steal of the year...WR U is nice but I wouldn't mind being known as the "UNIVERSITYof PAIN"

I say Matt Milton and Jesse Scroggins together.

If we get Trovon Reed we have a good chance at Lache Seastrunk as well

If we get Scroggins expect high interest from Dion Bailey

Ambles and Prater will be very interested with a strong pull at QB.

Expect great things if we get Scroggins. Commits will drop like flies if he commits. O line, WR, RB, etc.

That's really the appeal about Scroggins. I'm not positive who is better between him and Rettig. I'm not positive on who could become better between him and Rettig. I don't know who is a better fit and who will have a better future between him and Rettig. Neither has yet to play a single snap in our offense or their senior seasons. But I DO know that Jesse is the better recruiting draw right now, and that most likely, more offensive recruits would follow Jesse than Chase. So therefore, I'd love to have both of them, and I don't care really which one works out on the field, but I'd love to have Jesse most right now for the simple hope of offensive recruits.

Hey I can't say I blame them. As a WR my biggest concern would be who is going to be throwing me the ball. With Tennessee having so much QB trouble, I can understand why any wide receiver would be hesitant.

I don't think anyone would come to Tennessee JUST because of Scroggins. I think if they like they school, like the coaching staff, like the scheme we have here, all Scroggins is going to do is give them some confidence that we're going to have a stable arm behind center. Right now, we have nothing to tell recruits about QB except that we have Nick Stephens, which is not a great selling point. Having a set QB for 2010, a name that people have heard listed as a top tier quarterback, will help them to be more confident in their place in this offense. But never do you see a recruit say "I went there JUST cause he went there."

I see both sides and get the arguement that Scroggs will pull in recruits but these coaches are recruiting masterminds and should be able to sell UT on being an NFL factory and telling them don't worry about who the qb will be, we will get our guy, you worry about being a part of some championships.

We need all the help we can get with landing top out of state talent. Having good QB play is a big factor.

I don't see "being part of some championships" being a good selling point....10 yrs is a long way to go back for that.

I'm sorry, if I'm a Wide Receiver, I will want to know exactly who will be getting me the ball. I will not go to a school where I will be wasting my talents with a quarterback who is going to 1) never throw to me 2) never make a good throw to me. These guys who are 5 stars with top schools offering don't necessarily care as much about the "NFL factory" because hey, they have the talent to come in and be a playmaker, and can probably make it to the NFL on their own.

I agree with all of that but what do you think the coaches said to recruits like Brown, Nu'Keese, and others that committed last year? How were we able to land them even though they knew how awful our offense was last year and that crompton was still our QB, and our O-Line depth was incredibly thin?

but a guy who hasnt even played his senior year of high school will get your 5 star receiver the ball and make all the throws that lead him to commit to us?

I'm not saying that ALL positions have to have a quarterback to commit. I know that we have an awesome coaching staff, with a commitment to excellence, and just the environment in Knoxville and the tradition and importance of UT football is enough to get some recruits to commit. What I am saying is that for SOME players, especially wide receivers who rely on quarterbacks for their stats and exposure, it's definitely never a bad thing to have a quarterback lined up so that receivers can know the position is stable.

I think we can still get recruits and good ones even if we don't have a 5 star quarterback or a top 10 quarterback. But we DO have to prove that our quarterbacks are in a offense where they can get receivers the ball. If JC comes out and throws 2,000+ yards and over 20 touchdowns, and our running backs get a lot of touches, and we prove to have a balanced offense in the air and on the ground, then recruits will feel safer coming here, knowing that our offense can get it done.

But I don't think we should worry too terribly much about recruiting. Just looking through databases, in 2005, we got 16 4 star players...some of them have not been heard from since, and some of them got outshined by the three stars.

man i have to disagree with all of your posts on this page

were not a championship contender, and we wont be for a while. these kids were learning how to add and subtract last time we won something

we're hardly a pro factory anymore. one guy drafted was an embarrassment.

and we cant tell them were gonna get our guy, cause he already committed to BYU
