man i have to disagree with all of your posts on this page

were not a championship contender, and we wont be for a while. these kids were learning how to add and subtract last time we won something

we're hardly a pro factory anymore. one guy drafted was an embarrassment.

and we cant tell them were gonna get our guy, cause he already committed to BYU

I agree. We will not be a contender until we have a game managing quarterback. That does not mean a superstar. It does not mean even a 5 star. Or a Top 10 quarterback. What it means is a quarterback who is capable of producing efficient throws. A quarterback that is capable of putting the game on his shoulders when the running game is shut down. A quarterback who doesn't throw the ball in the dirt. Who can complete more touchdowns than interceptions. Who can convert the third down situations and extend the drive.

We don't have one of those. Crompton or Stephens could be that, but so far as of yet, they have not proven to be.

As far as NFL factory goes....yes, we DO have the coaches who know NFL talent when they see it, and we DO have coaches who know NFL schemes and what players will see when they get there. We will produce NFL players because we will get NFL talent. But, we can't expect for constant classes of NFL talent to roll in until we get some wins. Our coaches have proven reputations....in other places. Let us see how this season turns out. It may not be that we have to post an outstanding season to turn heads. Just improvement.

First things first, before we worry about bringing in huge recruiting classes or signing the top talent, though it's good to try to do that now, we have got to convert on the field, and we have got to concentrate on winning this year. This year may be the most important year of the staffs career. It will show their abilities as coaches, not as recruiters first and foremost.

I'm getting way too excited about the season. I don't intend on missing a single game if I can help it.

Dude, you're insane. We're not doomed if we don't get Scroggins. All we are saying is that right now, if we want to lure the high talent offensive recruits before the season starts, we need a marketable QB to commit and Scroggins is that marketable QB. We can still get quality recruits and we will. Not every recruit is going to commit before the season starts, and NO recruit is going to sign before February, so that gives us PLENTY of time to make a statement on the field and to perhaps sway some verbals back to us, and to pick up more.

The only purpose having Scroggins now does is to get us some early commits from some big names. I'm convinced if the staff really wants these kids, they'll find a way to be there all the way to the end. A good QB just makes that easier.

I know we are not doomed, its sarcasm. So let me ask you this, would you take Scroggins over Retting or Grayson even if the latter two wind up being better qbs but arent as "marketable" as Scroggins or pull in as many big recruits? If you have read this thread, I get the arguement that Scroggs will help bring in talent, I just think people are putting WAY too much stock in that and are forgetting what we really need which is the best qb for OUR system. I could give a rat's ass how marketable he is. And yes, I definitely agree with you that our performance onthe field will dictate how good our recruiting this year will be, way more than what qb we get a commit from. Let our current team and our staff bring in the talent, not a 17 year old kid who might be decent.

thats cool with me. I like to debate.

were not a championship contender, and we wont be for a while. these kids were learning how to add and subtract last time we won something

we may be closer than you think, you are soooo gloomy. ONE YEAR DOES NOT A TEAM MAKE especially with an entirely new staff

we're hardly a pro factory anymore. one guy drafted was an embarrassment.

see above statement

and we cant tell them were gonna get our guy, cause he already committed to BYU

we can tell them anything we want, do you know what recruiting is?

You make great points, and I totally agree. I base my opinion on the fact that since the staff offered Scroggins first before Rettig or Grayson that he fits the system they want to run. They felt he was the best fit. Will he actually be the best fit? Neither you nor I nor the staff can answer that. We all thought Crompton was the QB of the future coming out of HS, but he wasn't. I believe if Rettig or Grayson would have been a better fit for our system than Scroggins, than they would have received the same if not more attention than Scroggins.

And just to show that players CAN flock to certain players, Ron Artest said that mainly, playing with Kobe Bryant was the reason he wanted to be a Laker.

I trust the staff, and we don't live and die by JS, but he won't hurt our cause.

So who follows next? If it's true and Scroggins is all Vol? Naturally we assume Milton is close to committing, it also looks like if we get Scroggins, then Dion Bailey is almost a package deal with him. Who else? Ambles, Prater?

I would say ambles, and possibly stone. I think we would move up Praters list as well.

I know we have needs a lot more pressing needs but I love that kid to get him would be the steal of the year...WR U is nice but I wouldn't mind being known as the "UNIVERSITYof PAIN"

Does have a nice ring to it. :good!:

If Scroggins commits it will trigger a domino effect IMO . All of these guys you mention could commit

I say Milton commits on the 24th or 25th round the time JS does. Once that happens, I feel Cobbs will move UT to the top and he and Prater will make it a priority to visit on an unofficial before their seasons start. We may not get an immediate commitment from those two, but Bailey (if JS commits) will probably commit in August when he visits.

Notice this is all contingent on JS coming here, which is looking like he very well may not.

Milton will be a Vol regardless of what Jesse Scroggins decides to do. There's no way we get 2 of these 3: Ambles, Cobbs, Prater. Just won't happen. Ambles is a Gator, and one of either Cobbs or Prater will be a Sooner...

I thought I just recently read an article on Rivals where he stated that UT and UF were pretty much even....maybe not?? I think once we pull a good QB, it will be hard for him to pass us up. If you wanna make it to the NFL as a WR, the recent history of gator WR's in the league hasnt been very good. They just dont run pro-style route trees in that offense.

If we get Scroggins, he is a vol. But no other scenario
