Who would you say is the best coach in the NCAAM Basketball?

I think that Bruce Pearl is the best right now. I know he has not won at this level yet but that will change. He has done more with less than most other coaches. But the thing that puts him over the top is that he has a golden tongue and has brought national attention to a football school. There is a buzz right now around basketball that no one could have dreamed about just 4 years ago.:worship:

H to the Izzo, V to the iza, is the best coach in America in my opinion. His teams never wow you with huge numbers of NBA stars, but they are always there come March.

I'm pretty darn happy with Bruce Pearl, but Izzo is the best all-around coach in America. You can't go wrong with Roy, Pitino, Matt Painter, Howland, etc....but Tom Izzo is the man.

I gotta say Pitino, he just does it everywhere he has been.

Does the fact that Pearl is 5-1 against Billy D, Pitino's understudy, bode well for tonight?

hat, who is your pick? Pitino is really good, but I still gotta pick K for coaching now. I might even rank Izzo above Pitino. Surprised no one has even mentioned Calhoun. I'd like to put Huggy up there, but i just can't.

This funny video poll on flixgadget.com cheered me up:p after tonight’s loss:cray:: (The Funniest Coach Moments!). We clearly need to vote up Coach Pearl’s shirtless stunt – especially since Pitino’s corny white suit night is leading. Go Vols – 2009 Champs!

This thread needs clarity.

If I need someone to win the big game: Pitino (maybe it's b/c his team just whipped us, but a gut feeling that he's the guy).

If I need someone to scout and game plan: Tim Floyd or Gillispie

If I want someone to build a stable, successful program: Roy Williams or Izzo

If I want the best recruiter: Calipari or Howland (my best guesses)

If I want someone to rejuvenate a program: Pearl

If I want someone to educate my players on bball fundamentals: Bo Ryan

And for all those saying K is the best coach RIGHT NOW, what has he done in the past 7 years that would make you say that, compared to those I've mentioned above?

I don't think it's a question that lends itself easily to a single answer. There are about 15 coaches who make up the upper echelon.

then could you name your upper echelon? And time permitting what makes them so special? Feel free to add weaknesses as well.

no love for Jim Boeheim? I gotta take him above Tubby. Also I'm curious if that's just off the top of your head or if you would actually put Izzo behind that many coaches.

That was in no particular order. Boeheim is really good, but his program is currently showing signs of trending down. The same with Lute Olson.

fair enough. I'm fine with leaving Lute off because of the current status, but I guess I'm willing to give Boeheim 2 more years or so before I give in to the downward turn

He's atleast won a championship the past seven yrs...only two other coaches you've mentioned has.

Until someone matches Coach K in titles..he will be the current top dog coach.

I think the point is that once (insert you winner here) wins it all two mondays from now, it will have 7 years without a duke title. Looking at the body of work though, Duke is still regularly contending for ACC regular season titles (a title I don't believe is actually counted) and tourney titles. They have struggled in the postseason though.
