Who's up for December Delirium, a 32 team playoff?

December Delirium (a la March Madness): a 32 team college football playoff through the month of December where the top 8 seeds get a bye. Games in first two rounds played on Friday night, all day Saturday, and showcase Sunday.

Pros: more excitement for a broader range of fans, zombie bowls now have relevance, more revenue for teams

Cons: logistics of travel, potential injuries, nothing gets done during December

"Worthiness" is subjective and irrelevant if your favorite team is in the playoffs. Just like March Madness, there's always a chance a Cinderella team (South Carolina) outperforming and ruining a higher ranked team's season. And who wouldn't want to see teams like Notre Dame and Indiana get exposed early?
Terrible comparison. It's much more contrasting

The 2-team BCS worked every single time. 4, 12, 16, 32 or Infintyt times infninity....whiners will always whine. Yeah, well....
I hear what you're saying but there is a number higher than 12 and lower than 48 that allows stronger teams from harder conferences (SEC) not to be left out due to the "fairness" of allowing low SOS teams (eg Notre Dame, Indiana) or weak conference champions (Miami, AZS/BYU) to take their places. It's a problem that can be solved by math and logistics, and IMO it would be very interesting to watch.

Football isn't remotely anything like basketball as far as competition is concerned.

BTW, we're right in the middle of a huge change.

The next change should be eliminating group of 5 teams and more equitable seeding based on schedule
If you're saying parity in talent is more evenly distributed in basketball than football so that any team can beat another, I agree that's probably true today, but the NIL/Portal is bringing a similar parity to football. Just look at all the Cinderella teams and chaotic games from this year alone. We wouldn't be sweating Vandy if Pavia wasn't a portal transfer from AZ.

At the end of the day, it's just a guess based on trends and I thought it might be entertaining to think about.

If an expanded playoff ever happens, it will be 4+ years in the future.

Yes, but the parity in football is actually going to be within the SEC and the Big 1G. Neither the Big 12 nor ACC champion is one of the 12 best teams. Certainly the group of 5 have no one within the best 12 team. Basketball parity is a result of roster sizes. Football teams have 24 different starting positions. 85 man rosters. Basketball starts 5 and has 13 on a team

I think they may have found the right combination the way it is right now.

The way South Carolina is playing right now, they're going to be tough to beat. I love watching teams that get better throughout the year begin to dominate during the playoffs as a lower seed.

The thought of Nico and our offense suddenly showing up makes for big-time excitment too.

I think 12 is good. Just right.

16 would be a ceiling. FCS has worked well with that model

Winner has to play 17 games.....never gonna happen

Sorry - already is happening!!!

The winner this year will have to play at least 16 games and may end up playing 17 games if they don't get a bye.

- 12 regular season games
- 1 conference championship game
- 4 potential games in the playoffs assuming they do not get a bye

17 games possible.
Those that get a "bye" play 16.
