Why did MTSU get a bid?

Probably would have got in over MTSU except there is one small problem - MTSU beat them last year in the NIT. In Knoxville. Ask Auburn's football team what happens when you can't seal the deal against a team that eventually makes it to the Big Show (Southern Cal getting the nod to play OU). And, beating Ole Miss put them over the edge, too. Did they deserve it? No - they embarrassed themselves on TV last night. Did UT deserve it? No - Maryland or UVa (who beat UT) should have been there instead.

Quit crying about UT not getting in. They would have lost last night, too. A team that has no PG and can't shoot has no business being in the Big Dance. Having said that, once UT trades McBrick and Little Kenny for studs Hubbs and Maymon - THEN we can talk. UT is going next year - make no mistake about it. But until then, we need to just quit whining and get ready for spring football.
Although I agree somewhat, your a Dooley lover. Nuff said

Part of an overall backlash against the SEC. Who last year held the national championship in basketball. And baseball. And football. And track (indoor and outdoor).

Arguably that kind of unmatched success generates envy and loathing in other quarters. So it's no surprise our conference got backhanded by a backroom committee of wannabees and assorted mid-major ne'er do wells.

Yes, it was MTSU's win over Tennessee last season in a tournament that nobody cares about(including a majority of the field) that put them over the edge. Our 69 point win over MTSU back in the 07-08 season is just as relevant, if not more so considering it took place during the season. But yeah, you've outdone yourself iluvsmesumdooley(adorable).

I don't know what's worse. What kind of ridiculous conspiracy theory is this?

if Tennessee got in, they wouldn't have been in the play in game

I'm sure this has been addressed in the past 5 pages, but they would've absolutely been in the play-in game.

Since they expanded to 68 teams, the last four at-large teams in play in 2 play-in games. So a bunch of 12 seeds play play-in games.

Under the old format, no, UT would never be in a play-in game.

Liberty and NC A&T won their tournaments and were 16 seeds.

It is what it is and we got what we deserved. At least we had the thrill of being in the conversation, unlike 7 of our conference brethren.

We have to get a bid next year though. Close-but-no-cigar won't cut it.

I think you missed the point. He's saying MTSU, St. Mary's, Boise St., and LaSalle were the last 4 at-large teams. Under the old format, only 2 of these teams in the tournament. UT would've been about the 5th or 6th team out.

UT did not take care of business and would not have gotten far into the tournament with all of the inconsistent play. Martin has a phenomenal opportunity next year to get it done and go deep in tourney if we can get it going from the beginning of the season.

Gotcha. Need more coffee.

In all honesty, I think MTSU and St. Mary's getting the nod has something to do with VCU from a couple of years ago. Mid-majors that make runs creates interest. A team like MTSU with a good RPI and a lot of wins looked very appealing to the committee because they just may turn into the "VCU" of 2013.

Not surprised Vols not chosen, but MTSU, even with six seniors, looked totally out of place last night. Committee could've done better IMO...but all these "play-ins" are watering down the quality; that, combined with how CBS & the nit-works have ruined the old Direct TV purchase package has left me pretty blase' about march madness.

Some of us use facts to back up our argument rather than just blind opinions on what we think should just happen.
