Why did MTSU get a bid?

In all honesty, I think MTSU and St. Mary's getting the nod has something to do with VCU from a couple of years ago. Mid-majors that make runs creates interest. A team like MTSU with a good RPI and a lot of wins looked very appealing to the committee because they just may turn into the "VCU" of 2013.

If they thought that about MTSU then they're even bigger tards than we all thought.

Why? Because MTSU lost to St. Mary's? The same could be said for St. Mary's re: RPI, win totals, etc. If St. Mary's beats Memphis the committee will look pretty smart. If they don't beat Memphis, oh well.

A lot of UT fans are getting too wound up about the committee looking foolish on a play-in game. At the end of the day, no one cares too much about 16 or 12 seeds.

You're right, nobody cares about the play-in.

But if they thought a team that has literally beaten a single team in the top-100 was going to make a run, they're mad. That VCU team beat a handful of decent teams during the year. MTSU got shat on by the one good team they played and their losses were to teams that are pathetic. All it does is show a complete lack of attention paid to the process. Putting crappy, undeserving teams in the tournament is no good for anybody.

Pretty much agree with what you said. :good!:

The RPI is ridiculous and outdated, that's the entire problem. The RPI said that MTSU had the 9th ranked OOC schedule. That's laughable. Laughable.

If you take RPI out of the equation entirely, then MTSU wouldn't by anywhere close to bubble talk.

But the RPI props up some programs, mostly mid-major programs, and if you do away with it, a lot of deserving mid-tier programs wouldn't get a shot in Match.

Say that to VCU who played in the play-in game and got all the way to the Final 4.
