Well I'll say it!!! There are a bunch of black people but you know what...there are a bunch of white people here too! This is a racially divided city and it sucks living here at times but it's home....so not everybody in Memphis loves Ole Miss, Arky, or whoever...granted a bunch do!

There are thugs and poor white trash here that makes Memphis the sewer of the state but there are some good people here like MYSELF THAT BLEED ORANGE!!!

Oh and I'm black too!

GO VOLS!!!!
Hey Bud i'm with ya i live and work here too and i understand your sentiment.

BHeen there several times myself. It is a dump regardless of the color of people there. There are more black people in the dump part but there are white too. Regardless, the point is that Memphis isn't a big concern of being part of the state because it sucks period. Color doesn't matter. Ask Obama.

I have been blown away at the amount of recruits that just left us and decommitted. I know they have pulled some good ones. But how hard should it be to keep some of these highly recruited people and maybe get more of the Tennessee kids. I am very disappointed with alot that has gone on with all the decommits. The fence fell down apparantly. The only one I am not upset about is the Oku kid. I watched tape on him and wasn't that impressed. Stars don't always mean they will pan out. Hope Brown sucks it up at Georgia. Being from Memphis, he probably will be academically ineligible anyways. UT could have helped him that department. Some of this may be misspelled. In a hurry. Go Vols, hope he coaches well next year. Don't want to see everybody wanting him fired so soon. Good Luck Kiffin
I doubt that he goes to private school and i believe he probably makes good grades, just my thinking but who knows i've been wrong alot.

Exactly. Race has nothing to do with it. I'd say its more of an income and culture issue.

And distance. Imagine if you had to drive from Knoxville to Memphis and back every time you wanted to visit home. That's about 14 hours in the car, including stops for gas, food and convenience. You basically can't make a weekend trip home. It's a chore.

What Fence are you talking about???
This was the first 2 months of our new coaches we might have a post in the ground but no fence yet! "If you build it they will come" we need big wins this year. We need serious improvement in our Offense. If we get those than next year will be a walk in the park on NSD.
I keep saying this but its the dang TRUTH we have had a HC that can recruit with the best of them...I want a HC that can coach with the best of them. I want a HC who can turn a little talent into a Great Player! I think we have the staff to make some players really shine next year!

It's not a problem at all. I drive up for every home game. Get on I-40 and set the cruise.

And Marlon Brown chose a school further away than Knoxville anyway so distance isn't an issue.

I agree...Just b/c U of Memphis fans hate UT and that carries over into the public...so people around here are jealous of UT b/c we're the best team in the state! Kind of like a Duke vs. UNC in basketball.

Oh well...you'd be surprised to see how many UT fans there are here though!

I almost killed my best friend of 13 yrs b/c he switched over to the Crimson Tide!!! I asked him how the hell he could do that! I converted him back in 1995 and I dont know if he was a true fan anyway....

O there's alot of culture!

I thoroughly enjoy Memphis for the culture. Take in an NBA game one night. A broadway play the next. Have some great food anytime with literally 100's of places to choose from (and I'm excluding the chain restaurants). On the weekends you can check out the symphony, zoo, or any number of museums.

Maybe not for him. It wouldn't have been for me either, because I didn't go home much. But I had friends who dreaded making that drive while we were in school. I'm sure it's an issue for some kids.

The main reason some Memphis people hate UT is because people from ET and MT always say disrespectful stuff like I've read in this thread. Like it or not, Memphis is part of Tennessee, so it's disingenuous to have pride in our own school and/or state while dogging our largest and most culturally diverse city.

Good post. Memphis is also the largest metropolitan area in the state. Quadruple the size of Knoxville - good and bad areas - and you'd have Memphis.

Thank You I believe also Memphis is not going to be kicked out of the state of Tennessee in my lifetime or my kids and grandkids lifetime.

Not to mention UT-Memphis. But I wouldn't expect most posters on here to even know what they study at UT-Memphis.

I bet Mr. Berry does.

And lock your doors and hide your wallet as you walk or drive to each one.

My routine doesn't change when going out regardless of the city. My car was broken into three times in Knoxville over 5 years but not once in 14 years in Memphis - and I have a much nicer car now.
