I agree, I grew up in the Memphis area (Oakland,TN) and have lived in Germantown, Cordova, and Collierville before moving to Chattanooga. There is good and bad in any city in Tennessee. Memphis certainly does have it's share of bad but it also has a lot to offer like you stated. If it wasn't for the long drive I would enjoy my trips home a lot more.

I have been to all of those areas and enjoyed my stays there. Nasvhille has it's share of crime too. It just seems like Memphis has so much more. It's a shame, the city really does have so much to offer.

Nashville is a good town. Lots of HOTT chicks there. As long as they aren't going to Vandy.

Sorry if it offends anyone. No, come to think of it I'm not. I visit the city in question several times a year. I've traveled this entire country and spent extensive time in each state (except North Dakota). I'm just giving my opinion. I have not brought race into this at all and I will not. Memphis is not a complete black/white issue. It's a corrupt political system, corrupt police, etc. It is my opinion that the city is a dump and needs cleaning up. I'm not some outsider who doesn't go regularly. I'm just the one with the balls to state his opinion....here's another. I really enjoy spending time in Atlanta.

So if you turds want to boo hoo hoo over my opinion of one of our cities....go right ahead. It's a dump.

You can have your opinion about Memphis. And that helps me form my opinion about you.

Back to the original post for a second. Nobody on this site likes Fulmer less than I. However, our inability to recruit Memphis far predates his tenure as the head coach.

Oh please. Just because you don't like McDonald's doesn't mean I think less of a person. My best friend's drive down often to get tatted up at Ramsey's Shadow. I guess you'd invite them to Thanksgiving dinner??? Come on now.:ermm:

Sure. I have no problems with tattoos. I have problems with closed minded ignorant people.

And for the record, I despise McDonalds. The only reason I go is because they have a magical draw on my kids.

I got this in email today. Timely considering the city bashing.

YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM MEMPHIS WHEN...
- The main attraction at the most expensive hotel in town is ducks
- You "know someone who knows" Justin Timberlake
- Everyone runs outside at the sight of the first snowflake
- You know that 107.5 will change it's name every year without fail.
- You have 'free cable'
- You know that MusicFest = Mudfest
- Prince Mongo & Jerry 'The King' Lawler are on the Mayors ballot
- You have waited for 4 hours to get a drivers license or have your car inspected.
- You know what real Barbecue is.
- You know that Nonconnah = Autobahn
- You're scared of Germantown Cops
- More than one person in your family has an Elvis story
- You know that our tap water = Evian.
- "Goin muddin'" is a sport
- You know that turn signals are optional.
- You know that the weather doesn't always go with the season.
- You call the Mississippi River 'The River.'
- You didn't even know that the Old Bridge and the New Bridge had names.
- You've had to switch the thermostat from heat to air in the same day
- You can say 'Take Poplar' and get anywhere from anywhere.
- You know you can make it anywhere in Memphis in 'about 15 minutes'
- You still call it "Memphis State"
- You know that McAllister's is the best place to get Sweet Tea!
- You know that when somebody says '201', it ain't got nothin' to do with a clock.

See, the problem I have is you calling me ignorant. Ignorant would be if I hadn't spent MONTHS and months in the city I'm talking about. Ignorant would be if I hadn't traveled the country for years with a plethora of cities to compare it to. Ignorant would be if I hadn't actually hung out with corrupt people in Memphis politics. I'll say it again.....I enjoy my visits to Memphis...but it's a dump & it's dangerous.

No sir. It is my opinion that Memphis is a dump. You don't like McDonald's....fair enough.

I've lived here for 14 years and I travel the country and world. Memphis is a great city that has bad areas and it's share of small-city-minded-leaders in a big city.

When I first moved here it was a dump. But there has been a lot of work and to call the city as a whole a dump is not seeing, or wanting to see, the changes for the better.

Next time you're here, go catch a Redbirds game and then walk over to McEwen's for dinner. If you don't have a great time, I'll pick up the tab.

So it was a dump and now it's not. IMO, it's a dump with a long way to go to improve it's image. It has great potential. I agree there have been improvements in Memphis....some areas have improved. Heck, the only 1st cousin I have got his doctorate from Memphis State (couldn't refuse). I used to visit him all the time and yes, there are areas of town that are safe, and you can have an absolute blast in. I know......I have.

Alright people, retract the claws:p I've lived in Memphis virtually my whole life, excluding a three year stint in Phoenix. Is it the safest, most beautiful city in the world? Um, no. But being a musician, I love the musical history and the character the city has to it. There are definitely plenty of good things about this place, though its primarily known for the bad (crime, three six mafia, etc:eek:lol:)
Give us Memphians a break though. There are a lot of Tennessee fans in the city, heck, there are a lot more of them here than there are Memphis fans. And the only reason Memphis hates Tennessee sports wise is because they have tried repeatedly to get in to the SEC and get denied because they don't have the funding that the Vols do and that pisses them off. They want to be on the same level as we are, and they know they'll always be second best (and by some opinions less than that.)

Austin Idol was nothing more than the poor man's Jesse Ventura.

. . . with a Figure 4 ripoff finisher.
Exactly. You saw how fast they ran his Las Vegs Leg Lock using arse out of Georgia Championship Wrestling. Idol was a clown. I loved seeing The Freebirds stomp him into oblivion.
