Why do y'all say GT sucks?

We came really really close in 2014, just a couple more plays our way early in the season and we could have been undefeated. Also our coach has won many national championships at GA southern, of course that wasn't D1 though. But we have come way closer to a national championship over the past few years than UT with our system.

Yep, and when stars align you can win a lot of games. That said, there's a reason it's not being run by the schools regularly in the running, and it isn't because coaches don't know how to run it. The goal for UT has been to build the roster and staff to win the big one. That means taking your lumps during the building process. Fans hate that process, but it's the only proven way to get there.

I don't blame tech for running that scheme. With the challenges they face in recruiting and facilities, it's a smart way to field a competitive squad and win some they otherwise would not.

Yes being in the middle of SEC country does not help, add that with limited degree options and mandatory calculus in all degrees you have an issue with recruiting. We've actually had two kids in recent years not make it to one game. 1 guy was here for the spring and then couldn't keep the grades up and the other didn't even make it to campus. Both were arguably two of our best RB recruits since Paul has been our coach.

Mandatory college calculus? I understand Tech is Tech but surely people major in other subjects than Engineering and STEM? College Calculus would keep a lot of incredibly bright students away, even a lot of Ivy League kids would want no part in mandatory college calc.

ETA: I just looked at some of the programs offered. Even the Applied Languages and Intercultural Studies (Japanese, German, French etc.) requires some silly math courses you'd never need for such a degree. Tech should really, really, consider offering BAs in subjects like this because they make little sense as BS degrees. Sticking to the BS-only program has some majors that look like they were constructed by a professor who came up with an amazing program only to have the admin force some random math courses in 'cuz Tech is in the name!' or something.

It's crazy imo, I wish we wouldn't do it and imo it really does hurt our recruiting.

I don't get it, we get this often from other teams as well. Is it because of the offensive system and because people don't like the cut blocks? up until 2015 we were tied for the most active consecutive bowl appearances. We won the orange bowl in 2014 with 11 wins. We have been below .500 only once in recent years. We had 9 wins last year with 3 coming against the sec east. We hold a 5-5 record against Clemson and a 5-5 record against FSU since Paul Johnson has been our coach. So why do people say we suck when these facts are more than most other teams can say that we play. Imo it's a misconception based on the fact that we run the offensive system we run, so a lot are just uninformed about us. If there is actually reason why people say this besides, because we cut block and run the system we run (which are not reasons a team would suck) please tell me. Not trying to start anything, this is a serious question.

This guy sacked your QB. You don't come back from that quickly.

Why do some keep saying because UT is a top tier team heading back to the top? As if GT is sooooo far behind UT? I agree over history UT on te field has been better, but not by a large margin.

GT 4 national championships UT 4
GT 16 conference championships UT 16
GT 44 bowl games UT 52
GT .568 bowl game winning percentage UT .538
GT 17th all time in wins with 723 UT 9th with 829 wins.
GT all time win percentage .593 UT .681

Obviously UT historically has been better, but it's not by this major margin as some have acted like.

If I'm wrong on any UT stats I apologize.

The problem with Georgia Tech is the defense is all female. I just think the boys from UT will not play as hard against a bunch of girls, so it's gonna be hard to score.

Back at you. So why do your posters on your forums say that we suck?

It's been a pretty good rivalry over the years. Well, not since 1964, really.

Since 64 we've played 21 times, and UT has won 16.

Oh, and your stadium is named after a UT alumnus.

I doubt he will be on the hot seat he's been one of the more successful coaches at GT, even with some of the inconsistencies. Paul Johnson is a really really good coach for what he does. If GT could recruit to the level of top 10 we could compete for a national championship with what we do. I just highly doubt we will ever recruit like that lol.
Tech won't be able to recruit at a top ten level because of the system. Elite athletes want a chance to showcase their talent for the league scouts. The triple option doesn't allow for that.

The system has a part in not being able to recruit a top 10 class but that's not the only reason, we wouldnt be able to with a different system.

I honestly can't see a way that it wouldn't hurt -- even non-athletes looking at GT are going to think twice if they don't want to go into Engineering or STEM or just aren't certain of their major starting out. None will admit it but schools can get anyone in if they really want to (within reason and NCAA requirements anyway) but having a math requirement like that for pretty much all majors is something you can't get around and not everyone enjoys or is even competent at college-level calculus.

GA Tech used to be in the SEC eons ago.
They turned their backs on the rest of the league and left the conference.
That makes them turncoats.
Therefore, they're now 'furriners' as far as the SEC is concerned.

With those comments it shows you support Bama. Shows you do not know SEC history as well.

I think this is the first time I've seen GT, Female, and 'Score' in the same sentence, ever.

Sounds about right, I hate that we have a limited amount of degree options as well. People ask why we can't be the Stanford of the south as far as recruiting goes and these are two of the huge reasons imo. Well, that and the fact that it's a more appealing area to most kids I would assume.

Techfan,

I don't think anyone on this forum truly think GT sucks. Y'all had a good season last year, CPJ is a good coach IMO and to me, I've never liked this match up. It's going to be a tough, dangerous game. We (Tennessee fans) watched us pull out a win first game against Appy St. last year, Ohio U gave us fits, we laid turds against USCe and Vandy. It wasn't pretty. We just don't seem to handle opponents very well with this style of offense. Hard to get a handle on it. I think as we get closer to game time, this 3.5 spread becomes a pick em'. Last time I saw UT play Tech was 1985/86 or so. I watched us lose at Bobby Dodd Stadium when we were a pretty good team. Anyone in their right mind on this board won't take GT for granted.
