I think OP is reading in to this wrong.

Most of the board doesn't think GT sucks; look at the overwhelming number of responses from VN stating things like "close game", "hard fought", "possession battle", etc.

The problem is that your coach is a prick and your offensive scheme leads to injuries. Last year was the worst season for injuries at UT I can remember; you'll have to excuse us for being gun-shy and negative.

That being said, Oregon beat the holy hell out of us two years in a row, and now we are bros. We can be bros with you guys as well. At least neither of us are UGA.
Not trying to argue but where do you get our system leads to more injuries? There's no proof of this. I've asked for someone to find multiple instances from guys being injured by CUT blocks and no one has been able to do it, not even 1 instance. Go watch our games more times than not guys are not being injured by us. But I do have respect for UT and think it will be a good game. I know most of the fans don't think GT sucks, I was just trying to figure out why some do.

Why do some vols think GT sucks?

Tenn team talent ranking in 2016 according to the 247 composite = #14
Tenn 2017 recruiting class ranking according to the 247 composite = #17

GT team talent ranking in 2016 according to the 247 composite = #50
GT 2017 recruiting class ranking according to the 247 composite = #47

Tenn has played a total of 1249 games in the history of the program.
GT has played a total of 1248 games in the history of their program.

Tenn has won 108 more games than GT. With 12 more losses GT will hit the 500 mark for total number of losses. Tenn is just emerging from the lost decade and still would have to lose 29 games just to get to 400.

Since GT left the SEC in 1964, the rivalry stands at Tenn 16 wins, GT 4 wins, and 1 tie.

Given that recent meetups are akin to the series counts for TN/Vandy or TN/Kentucky and since all vols know Vandy and Kentucky sucks it stands to reason that based on all relevant data GT sucks. Common sense. Intuitively obvious to the most casual observer. This ain't rocket science.

:)

I'm an old guy. This is some good data, however - I gotta admit - if I wasn't tainted by orange prejudices over the years, and had to make a case for Tennessee being "like their old self", I'd have to say,I can't make a case, and there are a lot of reasons why this GT fan asks this. The body of work of the last decade of UT has been awful. Last season, Alabama mopped the floor with us. Vandy and SC - you know that story. App State? What if Hurd hadn't recovered that fumble in the end zone? Georgia - what if UGA's cover man (you know, the tall one) was smart enough to get if front of the hail mary? Last year could have been way worse.

Having said all that, I'm optomistic for this season. I think we will have very pleasant surprises in the post-Dobbs QB position. More accurate passing. Coaching changes may also make a huge difference.

BUT.. this guy has a good gripe. We really need to beat somebody GOOD in a fashion where we get ahead and STAY ahead for the whole game. None of this getting down by 21 points and having to come back, nor winning with hail mary's. Until we do that, we are in denial.

Nothing against Tech, but cut blocking should be banned in football at all levels. Any coach that teaches it should be banned. Going for another players knees is evil and wrong, it causes far too many injuries. Blocks should only be allowed above the waist line.

It has been. It was specifically banned before the start of last season.

Did you ever play football??? Cut blocks are part of the game. WE CUT BLOCK sometimes. There are rules in place against it when the defender is already engaged with another player but when they are not its completely legal. It will remain legal as well.

As far as going for the knees... can you imagine a running back going face to face with a defensive tackle that broke thru the the line???? The running back has no choice but to go low or he will get destroyed.

I don't get it, we get this often from other teams as well. Is it because of the offensive system and because people don't like the cut blocks? up until 2015 we were tied for the most active consecutive bowl appearances. We won the orange bowl in 2014 with 11 wins. We have been below .500 only once in recent years. We had 9 wins last year with 3 coming against the sec east. We hold a 5-5 record against Clemson and a 5-5 record against FSU since Paul Johnson has been our coach. So why do people say we suck when these facts are more than most other teams can say that we play. Imo it's a misconception based on the fact that we run the offensive system we run, so a lot are just uninformed about us. If there is actually reason why people say this besides, because we cut block and run the system we run (which are not reasons a team would suck) please tell me. Not trying to start anything, this is a serious question.

Read the first post of this thread for your answer. ACC Coach Sizes Up Georgia Tech

Now, as a school with a storied football history, I don't think GT sucks. I always had a lot of respect for the 'ramblin wrecks'. I'm an old timer, and always considered them more of a rival than Georgia. We have played both about the same amount of times.

That said, don't like your coach or your scheme. Think that going for the knees 50 or 60 plays a game is dirty.

I think what you are experiencing is that Vol fans hate going 9-3, 8-4...For GT that is considered a good year. For us, well, we hate it. Even though we were in the dumpster for years, the last couple of years are still a huge disappointment. It's about expectations...and we realize that about GT. You guys like football a little bit.

We don't have as many fans but the die hard fans for us are not content with 8 and 9 wins.

I don't think GT sucks. I think this will be a hard fought game. We have to be there defensively or we will get run out of the building.

So by your standard UT sucks because they are currently a second tier team?

We are still TN. And by our standards we have been sucking for a while. Talent wise we are elite. Basically we've been an elite team turning in second tier results.

Our ceiling is higher than your ceiling, and your floor is lower than our floor. And that is with a tougher schedule (even though the acc has much improved).

We've never lost 8 games. Ever. Your team did just the other day

Most "experts" have us having a tougher schedule than y'all. We play UT, UGA, VT, Pitt, UNC, Miami, and Clemson. All these teams had vote for the top 25. We also have multiple teams with bye weeks before us and we play three games in a 14 day spand.

Our schedule would be a lot tougher if we didn't open up with such a cupcake.

Oh yeah.... Well we open with 3 games in a 13 day stretch. Our coach doesn't even know if that's been done before.

Everyone has beat the chop block horse to death, so lets just agree to disagree.

Another thing to consider is perception and expectation. Nothing against you guys, but even with our major, major suckage the last ten years, we are still a historic top ten program and a blue blood. Georgia Tech hasn't had that standing since the 60's. That isn't to take away from your successes, it is just the optics of the situation.

Your die hard fans may have elite expectations, but we aren't in the same ball park. Our casual fans' children expect 10-12 wins a season. Most schools would love to win nine games two consecutive seasons, but for us it was an extreme disappoint. I can also safely say that if we had a coach lose 9 games he would be ran out of Knoxville on the spot.

Here's hoping to a fun, injury-free game between two old school rivals.

One day isn't a huge difference not to mention our 3 games are harder than yalls in that stretch. We have Clemson in the middle y'all have Indiana state. But it's still crazy for y'all to have that, and not really fair.

He was actually taking a shot at our coach with that...visitors. :disappointed: We play a tough SEC slate that (if we play almost perfect) could potentially have us playing Bama TWICE. You got nothing on us...GTFO with that weakass shizz!
