Why do you like Tennessee

I was born and raised in East Tennessee -Tri-Cities area. Most of the college games that were on TV were in the south with a few exceptions. I watched a lot of Vol football and basketball, and watched the Lady Vols in particular. East Tennessee from Bristol to Chattanooga to Nashville is really pretty. The western part of the state has some Civil War history (Shiloh Battlefield) and also the home of Elvis Presley. I've visisted other states that are as nice in various ways. I like the New England states and Colorado, Kentucky and VA and North Carolina. The mid-atlantic states are really beautiful. Even though Tennessee is not a coastal state it has a lot to offer people (depending on what one likes to do)-hunting, fishing, hiking, history, beauty, National Parks, etc and some great college sports in Knoxville. Home prices vary but are reasonable and one can find various types of jobs, including the Federal and state government. I've probably said too much already. Oak Ridge has the DOE (Dept of Energy), Kingsport has DCMA (Defense Contract Management Agency) and even the major cities have Federal jobs.

Oh, one major thing I forgot- once a Vol fan always a Vol fan-GO VOLS!!!!!

I am a fourth generation Tennessee fan. I was born to be a fan. My dad went to UT, and still works there today. When my mom was pregnant with me, she and my dad went to a game, and I think the noise from Neyland gave me an innate love for the Vols. Went to my first game in 1997, as a nine-year old against Texas Tech, wearing a #16 Jersey. I was able to slap hands with Peyton on the Vol Walk before the game. I was shocked when I first entered the stadium. It was SOO big compared to Wrigley Field, the only other major sports arena I had been to. Anyway, winning two SEC Championships and a National Championship in the first two years I closely followed the Vols have set me for life, and probably given me unrealistic expectations. I am a freshman at UT and love it here, and I can't wait to start a family and raise my kids as Vol fans. If I have a son, I might name him Bruce, and if a daughter, Pearl.

I've been one for as long as I can remember.

Bein' that I live in Texas, everyone here bleeds the other orange. Yeah, the one that stayed in the oven too long.

You should see it when I wear a shirt that says 'The real UT -- University of Tennessee'. I get so many bad looks.

Once you've caught you Vol bug, it sticks!

Grew up in West TN, (Carroll County) never new there was an option to be anything else. I have an uncle who has season tickets four rows back behind the team. He drove a UT orange Corvette. My 2nd Cousin was an All American DE at UT in the late sixties. (Jimmy Weatherford)

Used to listen to the Vols on the Radio as they weren't on TV very regularly in the seventies. I don't remember the first game I ever heard as i was probably seven months old. Don't remember the first game on TV. I do remember the first game I went to. Rode in the back of a pickup truck for eleven hours to get to Knoxville about 4:00 in the Morning. Slept in the back of the same truck in a White Castle parking lot. Went to the game and saw Army come back and score twice in the Fourth to tie 28-28 (I think that was the score)

We won the trip from our Ag teacher after winning the district Parlimentary Procedure contentest in FFA. Our seats were actually on top of the 'O'.

Keeping the UT flag flying here in Clemson!!

OK, this is weird. I'm originally from Carroll County and I know Jimmy Weatherford and went to high school with his kids Brooke and Jamie.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

Unfortunately, my first memory of the Vols was at age 6 in 1997 Orange Bowl against Nebraska getting hammered by the Huskers. I was helping my dad take down christmas decorations (more like watching him do it) and saw the Huskers score a few times.

I remember the next day I didn't know exactly what happened (I was 6 I had a bed time), but I asked my dad, "did Tennessee win?" He said no, and I remember being very upset at the young age of 6.
I was in Ohio by then, but I have always like the fact that I am from Tennessee. I can't even remember for sure, but think I was a Vols fan watching the game as soon as I knew that they were from Tennessee.
Hey, I remember that '97 Orange Bowl game too. And what caught my eye was the last drive of the game when it was pretty much decided. Tee Martin came into the game very calm and commanded a drive that ended with a nice roll out TD pass. Something told me that Tee Martin was going to be special the following season.

I also forgot to mention that I experienced one of the most embarassing moments claiming to be a die hard UT fan only to be humiliated. I met some Tennessee Titans players years ago during a charity event. My aunt introduced me to a guy that I did not recognize the least bit. He held out his hand and said "I'm Joey Kent". Another time my uncle, a Bama fan, asked me what breed of dog Smokey is and I had no clue. I will never ever forget for the rest of my life that Smokey is a Blue Tick Hound!!!!!

I was born and raised in Nashville, TN. My uncle came to visit me here in Las Vegas. He's a diehard Bama fan, but was raised and still lives in Nashville. He asked me why I like Tennessee so much. Well, I can't really explain it. One year as a kid, I saw Heath Shuler running all over the field and we were not even a legitimate powerhouse yet. I just got hooked and have been for ever since. My first and only live game was '99 home game vs. Vandy and the Vol walk almost made me cry. I'm addicted and at this time of the year, UT controls my life. So why do you like Tennessee?

Born and raised a Vol fan from the get go. Coach Majors is a cousin, and naturally I bleed orange.

Was born in Chattanooga. Erlanger - April 10, 1987. I came home in a Tennessee onesy <-- that's one word I won't say for a long time again. Legend has it my blood is orange, bright orange. (I also have a thing for hating the schools and sports teams in my area - Iowa, Illinois, Chicago...)

Good topic...my dad is from Huntland, TN (Johnny Majors' hometown)

Johnny's hometown is not Huntland. Johnny was born and raised in Lynchburg, TN. His father, Shirley, a legend in his own right, was coaching the Moore County Raiders (both Johnny's parents grew up in Lynchburg, TN where Moore County is), and he took a job up the road at Huntland High School. While at Huntland, father was beaten by Moore County, which was led at the time by his son, Johnny. Johnny played the latter part of his HS football career for Huntland High (after Shirley moved the family there to be closer to his job), so that is probably where you gathered this erroneous information.

Went to HS w/ Ainge. I had a bunch of teams I followed (Oregon State, Texas, Ohio State, Purdue) but none that I was a true fan of. So I just kinda latched on to Tennessee after I saw Ainge's first game against UNLV.

My school has about 400 Notre Dame fans because Brady quinn.

I am not an ND fan but I do like Brady quinn.

Loving the VOLS was pretty much the only option in my house as a kid. I have some baby pictures of me in Tennessee plastic diaper covers (the ones that covered cloth diapers)!

Father was born and raised in Knoxville. He served 26 years in the Army so we moved around often. So, when he PCS'd to a new location we would normally travel through Knoxville between assignments. Always loved to see family and loved Knoxville. I was overseas working as a defense contractor when I made decision to get my degree. There was only one choice when it came to where I wanted to study. During my time at UT I grew from a fan of the Vols to a fanatic.

My mom is from Clinton, TN and my dad played football at Furman...Since the Paladins don't get a lot of national pub I started watching the Tennessee games when I was about 11. I loved Heath and Benji Shuler I went crazy when both of them were on the field together.
I get some great looks down here in Dawg land when someone spots my license plate or wardrobe.

GO BIG ORANGE!!!

I started following the Vols in the early 80's on the radio - when they weren't on TV near as much as they are today. John Ward is the reason I'm at Vol fan today. Of all of the great athletes that have come and gone at UT, no other person personifies UT football to me more than him. I sure miss his play calling - he brought an excitement to each game that would give me goose bumps.

That is wierd. I am from Clarksburg. I have not seen Jimmy or his kids since I was sixteen years old. Brooke and I are very nearly the same age.

Are you now in or around Dalton?

On a side note, my brother ran into Derek Weatherford (no relation) to Jimmy or Me. He had a big ol ring on his hand. He explained that some group or the other had plugged all the season statistics into the BCS formula for all teams since 1950 or so. Apparently the '67 VOLS picked up a championship by this formula.

Can anyone confirm this. Well, he had the ring. What I am asking is: Has anyone else heard about this?
