I think it's because people are taught they can spend money they don't have, and even when they have it aren't taught how to save.

Thoughts?? (OE Copyright)

Unions
De-emphasizing the importance of family and emphasizing the importance of dependency on government
Public school system
Corruption (government & business)
Married women with children working instead of at home
Tax system
Alabama
Political correctness

That enough?

Starbucks has always been interesting to me. I think them slowing down is a good thing. Makes me think people are becoming more rational. I never understood the concept of $5 coffee making it big.

I did a little report on them back in an undergrad class. It was back in the 90s when they were still regional, I believe. My impression was they would fizzle out and fail miserably. I was waaaayyyyy wrong on that one. I still don't like them.

I don't drink coffee but it's common sense. They don't serve typical black coffee that you get at the local Pilots. You're paying money for the bells and whistles that go along.

Why buy any name brand food when you can buy generic? Why buy a Porsche Carrera GT when you can buy a Ford Focus?

Maybe if they wouldn't give out a free cup of coffee to anyone who pledges 5 hours of volunteer work they could save a few stores?

you really stink at rhetorical questions. at least have two cars that are comparable in performance, price, and compensation factor.

back to the topic, this country is in trouble because of:

political correctness
the militant green agenda
labor unions
MSNBC
MTV
stupidly high corporate tax rates
senseless pandering to minority groups
illegal aliens
Dane Cook
Hollywood stars who think they're smart enough to comment on current events outside of Hollywood.

You really stink at getting the point of things. They're not supposed to be comparable, just like a $.50 regular coffee compared to a $8 mocha-latte-whatever.

I read somewhere that under the "stimulus" bill that the President is advancing illegal aliens will get the same money ($500 or $1000) that citizens will.

Either I am insane or that is simply not right.

How they going to do that? Will there be a line outside a government building in every city, free money for illegals here? Sounds good, line them up tell them they're going to get some free money. Walk them through a slim corridor and load their butts up on a truck headed back to mexico.

Reckless spending by our politicians has weakened our economy enormously, and will continue to do so.

The mentality that people have adopted where they feel that everyone owes them something... people have forgotten what really matters.

I would say ignorant voters are equal to apathetic voters.

I will say this though: Human nature built this country, and it's human nature that will eventually corrupt it. If the founding fathers had remained static, this country would be radically departed from what we now see.
