Why is everyone so excited about the game at Bristol?

It's like an employer who has a great Christmas party--something nice to look forward to, but no one is going to work there just because of that.

Just remember that if you are sitting on the front row for the game at BMS in September, 2016, you will still be a considerable distance from the field of play. Kind of like trying to watch a game through the wrong end of a pair of binoculars!

I'd bet concession stand prices will be on par with a sprint cup race. Binoculars, big screens, and inflated ticket prices for the game of the century or spectacle..what have you. All around an interesting event and one that will hopefully attract more fans than the last sprint cup race. I'll enjoy from the comforts of home.

VT fans are saying the exact same things. Playing at a race track that recruits may not even realized existed before now seals the deal for winning program and early playing time that may prep well for the NFL. But, recruits do choose a program for their "cool" uniforms...it's not like we're talking about future candidates for Congress making these choices.

LOL. No one has offered any rationale by which a coveted recruit would put any weight on this. Your standard 2 star in-state? Sure. But no one you need.

I'll say again. Fun for local fans? Sure. But after that it's meaningless.

Don't know if you really have a law degree but.......this game isn't just about recruiting...don't know where you got that. It's about excitement in the fan base, national exposure(which will happen no matter what you say) and may have an impact on recruits taking notice.
You sound really butt-hurt.

two-star in state.....LOL you should check rivals while you are in the courtroom instead of posting on volnation.
The rankings are easier to navigate.

Screw having the band at halftime. How about a few laps around the track? Put the ESPN crew riding shotgun in some cars. Or have CORSO ride up to make his prediction in a decked out Orange and White NASCAR, get out of the car wearing Smokey mascot.

If NASCAR was smart they would do this. It may make a lot of people nascar fans to see a short sample race live.

Got my tickets and 50X binocs on order.

watched the propaganda video today. sounds like they're planning on putting seats closer to the field. I would say by the time this thing is all said and done it'll be closer to 200000k.

bristol does it right. almost got a job there, it's a very tight knit group, and when Mr Byrd was alive he was kind enough to interview me as a favor to a family friend. He showed me the stadium, his office, and had someone show the museum. It's a first class gig there.

I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm honestly curious. I completely understand for Virginia Vols fans and those in the Tri Cities area, now the game is closer and more accessible. But from the universal acclaim the scheduling of this game has received, you'd think 100% of CFB fans were also NASCAR fans.

I've never watched or been to a NASCAR race so I'm assuming there is some sort of significance that is escaping me and I'm honestly wanting to know what that is, since everyone else seems to "get it.":hi:

Really? The largest crowd ever at for a football game doesn't spike ur interest

You still haven't answered my question... Do you think that the World largest tailgate party is meaningless? Do you think any of your > 2 star recruits go to that game as well?

I don't think any kid goes to UF or UGA just for a chance to play that game. And that's been going on since 1933.

Its like we are trying to herd cats here :) You said it was meaningless to recruits... and I disagree with that

It has nothing to do whether they want to play in that game or not. Its the atmosphere of the game itself, for them and fans both. To get them excited about the potential team they are being recruited by. Just as the 'Cocktail Party', Cowboy Stadium, or ATL for the Chic-Fil A opener. Neutral site games can be a big draw to recruits. As you said ... is it the deciding factor for recruits? Maybe not... it all depends on the kid. And you asked to find at least 1 4-5 star kid who wants to play in games like this.

Texas-OU game a recruiting draw for players more than coaches - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Granted, this will be the first year for the Bristol game. This game is nowhere near the status of OU/Texas or GA/FL...but perhaps its the start of a tradition. Thats yet to be seen.

Would LOVE to see this become an annual event between UT and VT or UVA.... or even UNC, NCSU, L'ville.

The BMS site is calling this the "Inaugural Battle at Bristol."

I could definitely see this as a southern classic. SEC vs. ACC.

Would you rather see the Vols play Austin P to a crowd of 85,000 in Neyland or go to Bristol and watch them play VT in front of the largest ever crowd to watch a CFB game?

Neyland for sure,I've been to both of course it is like others have said,it will be a good promotional tool for CBJ and there isn't really a bad seat anywhere at Bristol,I have been all over the place to watch races, but it is going to be hard to watch a football game from the nose bleed section there

i do wonder if they will put some seating on the track for the game, there could be well over a 170k seating, now it makes you wonder if that many people will show up for it

I love how some on this site try to make everything black and white or over simplify an issue. I doubt anyone comes to Tennessee because of the Battle at Bristol in and of itself. This kind of stuff is just another feather in Butch's hat. Another tool in the bag. Recruits are sensitive to trends and hype and this just continues the hype machine that is the Tennessee football program right now. Literally the only thing Butch needs to fully close the deal is a signature win. A win that he can point to and say "in addition to everything that your son will be a part of, we are turning this into a winning program as well."
