Why isn't everyone a Democrat?

for Obama, it's "do as I say, not as I do."

How tax-boosting Obama cuts his own - MSN Money

Obama fans, please tell me how this isn't blatant hypocrisy on his part. I'm not going to begrudge the money he's made, nor do I care if he's socked away 1 million dollars in a tax free retirement fund, but when he tells me that my taxes should be raised and that I should be grateful and join the collective...

well, that just sickens me.

The title of the article reads "How Tax Friendly Obama cuts his own," but the link and the tab both read "How Tax Boosting Obama cuts his own."

that's a stretch. Munis are tax exempt for good reason and investing in them yield taxable equivalent yields in decent return ranges amongst fixed income securities. If you want to be a conservative investor, muni funds make a lot of sense.

I just don't see this as tax avoidance.

if Dems are so set on everyone paying taxes. then why do hire tax lawyers to help them get tax breaks. if they really practiced what they preached, they would complete the simple tax form and just pay their share instead of hiring lawyers to help them keep their money. just more hypocrisy from the left.

Do you mean those that get into politics or just churches in general?
Well at first, I thought just the ones who get involved in politics but after thinking about it, all of them should be.

God doesn't need all that money.

I'll assure you that tax attorneys aren't getting paid because they're advising people to invest in municipal paper.

Municipal paper is tax exempt for the purpose of being marketable, yet also saving taxpayers money in the form of decreased interest expense. They are decent investments, but no great shakes and the Obamas aren't engaged in any tax avoidance schemes by buying this fund. They're likely following the sound advice of their PCS guy at JP Morgan.

Ah I see, so it is about who needs the money. And you have determined the government does. Good Obama supporter.

I do believe that some churches give their pastors, what have you, too much money but many more use the money they collect in grants or from their congregation to help the community in many different ways. I would argue they are probably much more efficient in doing this than our government. In short if we took away the church's contributions to the communities they serve we are only creating more void for the government to fill. And we all know that means more taxes for us.

i'm not talking about that specifically, but dem politicians spend a lot of money to get tax breaks. i'm saying if they were true to their word. they would reject any chance get tax breaks. if it wouldn't help the down and out. they should do it.

I'm mildly confused by much of this, but are you suggesting that a Dem taking advantage of legal tax breaks is being hypocritical?

Does that mean they also shouldn't use 401Ks and IRAs? Does it mean that they shouldn't take interest as a deduction on their personal houses? I'm just not sure where to draw the line, aside from the written law.

I just don't see this as an issue of hypocrisy as much as just prudence.

A criticism of Obama is probably unwarranted if BPV is defending him.

bigpapa, they preach to us everyday that we need to pay more taxes to help the world. whether it's small businesses or big corporations. they fight very tax cut proposed but at the same they take advantage of every tax break they can. If they truly believed more taxes should be paid, they should lead the way by refusing to take advantage of legal tax breaks.

I understood your point, I just happen to think it's a senseless one.

I side with you on this BPV but I would find their stance on more taxes and everyone paying their fare share less disingenuous if they led by example.

I just see this as similar to John Edwards having a photo-op in front of a homeless shelter, decrying the "two Americas" and how society has failed the downtrodden, then hopping on a private jet, then into a limo before dining on chilean sea bass at his 26K square foot home in NC.

I don't think they're about everyone paying their fair share in the least. They're about the wealthy paying more so they can give away more to the less wealthy. I Obama understands the tax breaks and wants them taken, but will just make taxes high enough that the breaks just don't help that much.

Yeah, I bet the sick and destitute really benefit from those million dollar gyms the churches are building.

Did I say every dollar is used correctly or there are no corrupt churches? No I did not. What is your point for favoring the taxation of them? It is because the government utilizes money so well?

Also, check on where some people end up sleeping after a tornado rips through their town. Might be a church gym and they don't require you are a member there.

But I guess you think charities should be taxed as well. Government, government, government!

Our sanctuary is a gym........... it is called the WAC, worhsip activity center......

What is wrong with a multipurpose room?

The school uses it also...
