Why not Tulsi Gabbard

Oh we took a significant pounding when Obama was elected and the dems held everything. They couldn't shovel out money fast enough and don't forget obamaCare.
That’s actually part of my point. Could’ve literally passed any new law without the vote of a single republican. Did democrats address immigration? Nope. Did they codify roe v wade into law? Nope. Did they make universal Medicare for all? Nope.

They built a mess.

Shouldn't. In 12 years the Dems have run theee different people. GOP has run one. I think it's fair to say Clinton wins if it's anyone but Trump she goes against. I think it's also fair to say the GOP crushes if they walked away from Trump in 2020. But here we are. He very well could lose to Biden and Harris. That's stupidly bad
I'd say a somewhat normal Republican would have won going away against Hillary and a Democrat other than Hillary would have done the same against Trump. I heard a lot of people say 'they're both awful but I'm voting for X since they're slightly less awful than Y'.

Of course Presidents have littany of advisors that some rely on more heavily than others. Sure the bureacracy is powerful, but certainly not against the will of the Executive. You are implying there is somesecret cabal that tells the Exectuve what to do, but cannot identify them. Suit up for hat.

The inner circle of the CFR.

What's the confusion? You were discussing GOP nominees. Im talking about how stupid GOP voters are. Directly related. "Hey let's nominate the guy who lost to the guy who hid in a basement." And then we will call fraud and crap when he loses again. It's crazy. Any number of governors could have the GOP nominee and this shat is not close.

Thoughts on how to reform primary elections? It seems we continue getting worse and worse candidates

Do away with the primary system, it’s a fairly recent practice anyway. Go back to state party caucuses who select delegates to the national conventions and they select the candidates at the conventions.

I am trying to figure out what was so horrible in 2017-2019 that he is considered horrible,..budget defict was too high, but I think the long term benefits of tax reductions led to growth that were only realized after covid..look at fed tax revenues now…massive.

Secured the border mostly
Reduction in regulations
No new wars
Appointed 2 good Scotus judges

It was horrible I tell ya.

Attempted unconstitutional gun restrictions, election conspiracies, off the top of my head those are two worst things Trump did. I may be missing something major though

open primaries. Everybody who is running for president in the entire nation runs against everyone else.

the top 2/3/4 whatever vote getters are placed on the general ballot.

its still only 2 rounds of voting.
but without party only primaries there won't be the initial race to the extremes.
could be 2 Rs, or 2Ds, or 2Is, or any combination there of.

other fix would be a "none of the above" option on the primaries, either in the current primary system, or the new one. If a candidate receives less votes than the "none of the above" option they are removed.

Nah, do away with them all together.
I saw your post on state caucuses. While I can’t say it would or wouldn’t turn out a better result I don’t see the country ever switching back to it is all.

And I can’t say ranked choice would have determined a better outcome this time. I know it would have impacted how I voted. I would have voted for Trump … around fifth.

I like none of the above

Without bloodshed we're never switching the way presidential candidates are selected or installed.

Segway Jousting. The victor is the candidate.
