Why UT Will Not Get a Big Name Coach

1. We face the same problem in football, no instate talent except for one city which is closer to most SEC schools than us and have Tiger High in town.Georgia is getting better and thats the state we have to dominate in order to recruit well.
2. Even the possibility that we could face major penalties will scare many coaches.
3. We have NO ONE returning if Harris and Hopson go. It will be a full rebuilding job.
4. Who would want to follow up a guy like Pearl who was as loved by fans as he was and make UT basketball what it is today.
5. Who wants to work for a weak boss like Hamilton who can't even keep you around if he wants you.
6. We are Tennessee, its a cursed establishment. Even when you win, you lose.

Good post but the clan on this board will try to degrade you and your post.

Disagree about no instate talent in basketball and number 6 is a loosing mentality!

Dude its just way to many negatives to to deal with right now. You know nothing about business. In a few years if all the sanctions are gone and hammy is gone or back on solid ground then yes ill be standing right with you guys screaming for a top notch coach. But until then im living in the real world knowing that the odds of getting a coach especially from the big east or the nba is gonna be hard to pull off.

Know nothing about business? I know that UT is a huge program that has a lot of money to offer. When you offer a coach $2 million or more, people will listen. Pretty simple. I have a feeling that once the tourney I'd over or near complete, more drama will unfold.

Sorry. Go back to thinking we'll get Brad Stephens or some other big name. We won't.

You are a glass half empty kind of guy. I agree some names like Jay Wright is not realistic, but Brad Stephens is. I did not want Pearl to go either until all the other stuff happend that forced them to fire him. It is sad, but don't be that guy. We have enough negativity around here.

people will also stop listening when they see that the ncaa is going to be all over their arse if they come here. i'm sure the fact that they'll be seemingly answering to 2 bosses will also be a problem, one being a dork from the academic side and the other being a spineless dork with the pr skills of charles sheen.

any good coach that we can get is going to have an ego and i doubt they will maintain the attitude that if they turn us down they'll never get another shot.

What if your list are the same reasons one might not want to support the vols. I think we would not have many more supporters than we do. We need to overcome those issues without playing the defeated position.

Then I hope you have a big ass checking account. That is what it'll take to get a big coach.

I started watching TN basketball on the tv reruns of games on a local tv station around 1970. I bought season tickets in the first year that King played. I never missed a home game for most of the 40 or so years that I have had season tickets. And I have attended practices under serveral different coaches. Devoe had some good years, Oneil was probably the best coach but his teams were so boreing that you could fall asleep at the game. Houston was a total bust. Peterson could not coach a lick, he absoultly refused to defend the 3 point shot and it cost him game after game. Green was the most arrogant and least respected by fans. No coach has even come close to Pearls accomplishments which are too numerous to mention. Not even the great Mears reached the heights that Pearl did.

Since you've been watching UT BB for 40 years, then you know that reaching the NCAA tourney was much, much more difficult for Mears than Pearl.

Also, which coach had the best winning percentage at UT? The answer may surprise you.
