Why UT Will Not Get a Big Name Coach

Speaking of in-state BB Recruits, what is the deal with Jordan Price 4-star at McCallie in Chattanooga. Were we even recruiting this kid? Also, is he the son or relative of former Vol -Chattanooga "Jay Price"? Just wondering

We shouldn't pay a coach alot of money and expect to make it to the final four, IMO. IMO, we should pay a coach however much money it takes to stabilize our program and expect the program to remain stable.

We should probably pay a premium for this coach but that's because the program is sort of in a mess right now. I also think that adding incentives is a must in order to motivate the coach to win.

He's not at McCallie or in Chattanooga anymore.

No they aren't. Play for a good team or Buzz Petersen? Tough call.

And didn't we offer Bradshaw over Humphrey?
I believe it was Bradshaw over Brewer, which is infinity times worse. Humphrey was a year ahead of Bradshaw and Brewer.

Should not want a big name. Rather have a quality coach/individual that wants to come here.

I would like a hire like Bobby Knight from Army aka Indiana. Of course, if we do that he won't make certain folks 'Top Ten List'. Or his hiring would be Bob Knight = never finished above 4th in his league/didn't belong in the tourney. Or the best one, I hate him he is the devil.

I respect the Hell out of Bradshaw, but if that's true, Buzz should have been fired the instant he made that decision.

Actually, the more I think about it I believe Bradshaw was the class before Brewer, but Petersen didn't make a huge effort to land Brewer because he already had Bradshaw. Think that's how it went.

I find the concept of 'big name hires' to be a musing. In either basketball or football, how often to teams get the 'big fish' that are out there?

Well a big fish can be anyone the team targets first.

That's the thing. People always throw out names that would be considered 'Saban' type hires. Those hires really only happen in fluky circumstances. The best I can think of in basketball recently would be Cal leaving Memphis for UK. Maybe Williams leaving Kansas for UNC if you go further back.

I know bob knight wont come here, but it sure would be nice bc it would piss all the old farts on this board off. And bob knight has no censor. So he would prolly call the idiots out and talk funky to them. Would be a great time.

Lee Humphrey? Yeah, he went to Maryville High School.

Odd, cause I can't remember hearing much about him out of HS.

Don't hold me to this, but Humphrey played point guard, and wasn't able to show his shooting as much when he played the point. Dane was more impressive as a point guard. Plus, Buzz was trying his best to get into Memphis, where Dane was, and he felt that could lead into a pipeline. At least that's what I've been told.

I don't understand why people think working for Hamilton is so bad. It's clear that he essentially gives coaches free reign to do whatever they want... just don't screw it up.

What I meant by working for Hamilton being a negative is that he is the boss but showed in the Pearl situation that even if he wants you, it still doesnt mean you'll keep your job which will scare some coaches.

That's the lesson you take from the Pearl situation?
