It's hard to see this happening given our current commitments, but his father's comments are intriguing. I think he'll end up somewhere in the SEC next year.

When a 6-4 quarterback with a howitzer for an arm starts putting up numbers like Ferguson's, the recruiting distractions will come soon enough for a player with two years of eligibility left. And far-fetched though it may seem, at least one member of Riley's family isn't ready to rule out a possible return to the Big Orange.

"If Coach Jones called," Don said, "I think he'd go back there."

FWIW, Ferguson is putting up mind-boggling numbers this season. After throwing for 480 yards & 6 TDs against No. 3 Butler today, he's completed 93 of 136 passes for 1269 yards & 16 TDs with no INTs in his last 3 games.

Might not happen, but wow, what mind boggling numbers!

1st I'm happy with his success he is having, knew after elite 11 camp he was a good one.
2nd best of luck, would hate to see him play SEC as a opponent but if so I would have to root for him except our game.

Young man made an irrational and impulsive mistake to leave. Sounds like he's grown, but we certainly have the QB talent lined up.

Best of luck, and hope we don't have to play him in the future.

He'd still be on the bench behind Dobbs if he stayed. Our current scheme and young offensive blocking line needed a running QB like Dobbs. Good for him for putting up the numbers that he is though.

If what has been published is true Dobbs may never have gotten his chance. He would likely have redshirted last year to fulfill Butch's promise to he and his mother. But I just don't see how you could trust a player who's already quit on you once.

Didn't he leave in bad academic standing? I have a feeling he couldn't come back even if he wanted to.

I am glad he is grateful to UT, but the timing for a return does not seem optimal. Dobbs has one more year and we have a top QB already in the next class.

But I would like to see what LSU might do with him. They have continuous QB issues and that might be a place where he could be a fit for the SEC. Would also like to see him in David Cutcliff's system at Duke.

We don't need a JUCO QB. Around January of last year, if he was available for the 2015 class, then yes. Now, with three QBs on the roster and another coming in with the 2016 class, as well as having the #1 2017 QB committed, we are in good shape. We have much bigger needs to fill.

He will be someone's Chad Kelly next year. I would be floored if CBJ reached out to him after the way he left.

As long as he has been humbled and learned to be a teammate, I'm all for him being welcomed back, especially if the team is on board

why are we even talking about this? No. Too many already here. So he is going to start over Dormady, Dobbs, Sherion, JG, etc....??

We have very limited numbers in this class. Who are you going to cut?

Amazing how growing up a little bit and maturing can make you a better football player. Bet he will do really well for a power 5 program somewhere

Good for him. That is a tough road.

And his dad was right, he probably will regret leaving for the rest of his life.

Hope he lands somewhere next year where he can sling it around and get noticed.
Always liked his arm talent.

I heard he left because he was basically told Dobbs was ahead of him and locked in to start for the future. Heard that from one of his not immediate family members. They also said he'd probably eventually end up at UNC. This was a year ago though. Not saying he should have left because of this, but this is why QBs transfer. Now I'm sure he regrets it. He's still a good QB though.

Bartenders aside and I know things didn't quite work out as all had hoped - this kid will star at a high level - so congratulations to Riley and to Peterson who has led Pittsburg to a 5-1 record this season. There are very few athletes that are capable of starting at qb at Tennessee, sometimes things just don't quite mesh at the right time. To his credit I genuinely think that CBJ wants nothing but the best for those that leave the program including Ferg and Peterson and I would be shocked if those two didn't want the best for our Vols. In Ferguson's case those are almost impossible numbers to achieve even against air - I think his has been the JC offensive player of the year 5 times this year and he will no doubt land at an Ole Miss or somewhere comparable. RF and Josh Dobbs are both amazing athletes imo - with completely different skill sets. Josh is amazing when he tucks and runs - Ferguson appears to be a deadly accurate passer that at times we wish we had. I really don't think there is an appreciation for what Ferguson has done this year - those stats are mind boggling to me and we very well may be watching him on Sundays some day.
