Wiedmer: Could ex-Vol Ferguson return to UT?

He'd still be on the bench behind Dobbs if he stayed. Our current scheme and young offensive blocking line needed a running QB like Dobbs. Good for him for putting up the numbers that he is though.

Not sure i agree with that

I think that ship has sailed ... Certainly wish the very best for that young man but I really don't see an opportunity for him to play at UT...

Peterman led pitt to victory over ga tech yesterday, he has improved under Chaney.

Yeah he looked really good to me I watch part of that game he looked much more athletic than he did when he was with us..: that kid is such a solid moral young man that I can only wish that he is greatly successful ...

The fact he would come back if we asked tells me everything I need to know about this staff and player relationships. Thats a rare thing.

We have elite QB talent on the way. The number one dual threat QB this year and the overall number one QB next year on the way. Also possibly the number one QB of 2018 committing. That's not counting the very good Dormady and S. Jones that we currently have on our roster. We are getting the best QB's for the next couple of years, maybe 3 years. Its hard not to feel excited and blessed even though Riley left us. Good luck to him. I love where we are at right now.

It's hard to see this happening given our current commitments, but his father's comments are intriguing. I think he'll end up somewhere in the SEC next year.

When a 6-4 quarterback with a howitzer for an arm starts putting up numbers like Ferguson's, the recruiting distractions will come soon enough for a player with two years of eligibility left. And far-fetched though it may seem, at least one member of Riley's family isn't ready to rule out a possible return to the Big Orange.

"If Coach Jones called," Don said, "I think he'd go back there."

FWIW, Ferguson is putting up mind-boggling numbers this season. After throwing for 480 yards & 6 TDs against No. 3 Butler today, he's completed 93 of 136 passes for 1269 yards & 16 TDs with no INTs in his last 3 games.
Great read; made my eyes a little misty.

The only thing that matters is winning. If the coaches talk to him and feel he can help them do that then there isn't any doubt you take him. If you feel it hurts the team then you say no.

Several questions: If he could, why would he? Why would we ever want him back? Why would we ever need him back? We do have much bigger fish to fry!

There must have been something holding CBJ back from playing him in the first place. From what I heard, he was extremely cocky to the point of arrogance, and didn't back it up with consistency.

RF is probably a better all around QB than Dobbs, but Dobbs brings an important intangible to the team in his leadership on the field. He's turning into Tebow in front of our eyes, and in the college game, that's what you want. If RF can come in and redshirt another year then take over when Dobbs leaves, he'll have 2 more years. Otherwise, he may not play that much next year and would only have one at UT. Other schools will start him right away. It just depends on how much he wants to play for the Vols.

He redshirted his first year...that plan's kaput. :pinch:

I doubt he would be on he bench regardless of who is here. He has experience, can run, and is probably the best passer in college today. He could teach the incoming freshmen a thing or two and could r=be retained as a graduate assistant. Of course, Manning could be here as grad. asst. which would probably assure we get the QBs we want in the future.

If he wants to come back to Tennessee, I know Vandy needs a QB. He'd rack up some stats at MTSU also. If he wants to see how good he really is, he should go to ETSU. He'd start day one.
