Wiedmer: Could ex-Vol Ferguson return to UT?

Let's hope he doesn't end up at UGA, as they clearly have a need for a good QB. With his talent, and the talent already at GA, they would have a very strong offense.

Bartenders aside and I know things didn't quite work out as all had hoped - this kid will star at a high level - so congratulations to Riley and to Peterson who has led Pittsburg to a 5-1 record this season. There are very few athletes that are capable of starting at qb at Tennessee, sometimes things just don't quite mesh at the right time. To his credit I genuinely think that CBJ wants nothing but the best for those that leave the program including Ferg and Peterson and I would be shocked if those two didn't want the best for our Vols. In Ferguson's case those are almost impossible numbers to achieve even against air - I think his has been the JC offensive player of the year 5 times this year and he will no doubt land at an Ole Miss or somewhere comparable. RF and Josh Dobbs are both amazing athletes imo - with completely different skill sets. Josh is amazing when he tucks and runs - Ferguson appears to be a deadly accurate passer that at times we wish we had. I really don't think there is an appreciation for what Ferguson has done this year - those stats are mind boggling to me and we very well may be watching him on Sundays some day.

Who's Peterson?

It's hard to see this happening given our current commitments, but his father's comments are intriguing. I think he'll end up somewhere in the SEC next year.

When a 6-4 quarterback with a howitzer for an arm starts putting up numbers like Ferguson's, the recruiting distractions will come soon enough for a player with two years of eligibility left. And far-fetched though it may seem, at least one member of Riley's family isn't ready to rule out a possible return to the Big Orange.

"If Coach Jones called," Don said, "I think he'd go back there."

FWIW, Ferguson is putting up mind-boggling numbers this season. After throwing for 480 yards & 6 TDs against No. 3 Butler today, he's completed 93 of 136 passes for 1269 yards & 16 TDs with no INTs in his last 3 games.

Ferguson was the best QB in that class in my opinion. I think Dormady is just as good now though. Neither will play though until Dobbs leaves or gets hurt. RF is a beast of a talent however you must be all around and that includes the classroom. I would welcome him back because I believe he deserves a 2nd chance. He didn't leave because he was in trouble or did anything wrong. Grades were the issue. If he wants to return I'm open for that. Where ever he winds up I wish him the best.

He'll go somewhere and kill it next year. Saw some juco highlights and wow does he have an arm, pretty mobile too. Maybe if Guarantano dropped for some reason, but I think Jones and Dormady are the future, even though I think RF has a better arm than anyone on our roster. Hope the kid does well somewhere outside the sec.

Ferguson gave up his chance when he transferred away.

He may be the "best QB in the class" like some of you sunshine pumpers are saying, but he's got Bray syndrome between the ears. Good luck at a lower tier school Ferg. Dont ferk up your 2nd chance.

Bingo. 5* arm with a 2* head. Maybe he's made the necessary changes in the leadership department dunno

The Peterman , Ferguson love is a little strange . They both left TN . Not the other way around .

I think people got a soft spot for Nathan Peterman because they felt he never really fit our system (after Jones arrived). Good kid in wrong system - people naturally want to see him do well. With Riley I think it's like a "hey look what could've been" thing because he was originally ahead of Dobbs then all of a sudden nosedived into the Atlantic and was never heard from again...until now

Lower tier school? Surely a power 5 team will give him a shot. Lots of teams need QBs.

If I was Harbaugh, I'd be all over Ferguson. A QB who can sling it is all they lack.

As much as it would be a feel good story i think you let him go somewhere else. We have moved on and have to many options in the upcoming years. He is good but i think we have better coming.

I recall reading that he will be a Dec grad. His options right now are limited almost exclusively to lower tier schools. Dont really see that changing.

Maybe if Sheriron transfers, or JG or Hunter decommits, but otherwise there isn't any room. He'll have 2 years of eligibility, one (2016) will be behind Dobbs, the other (2017) competing with Dormady, Sheriron, JG, and Hunter. Not opposed to his return, just saying it's unlikely.

If I'm Ferg, I'm jumping all over that Temple offer. Good coaches, an OC that's good with QB's, shoo-in to start for two years, and easy-to-shred MAC defenses.

Anyone else get tired of the way the media titles their articles as click bait? I mean before I even read it, I knew there was 0% chance that this kid is ever gonna put on the orange and white again.

It's not just sports but anything in media now days. Value is determined by how many clicks a topic can generate.
