Cal's Rivals affiliate now reporting that Lupoi, their ace recruiter will leave and follow Justin Wilcox to Texas.

This is BS because texas needs to recruit like the yankees and red sox need to be recognized as a possible suitor for a big name free agent.

12-18 recruits are signed up before NSD or their BIG Longhorn day in the spring, the last thing they need is an ACE recruiter, they need to develop talent

What you all are forgetting is that a new DC will want to bring in his own position coaches..

We don't need that much turnover right now.

Stability is a must.

What you're forgetting is Wilcox didn't bring anyone with him to UT. Also, Larry says CJW hasn't been getting along well with our current coaches and is demanding total control over the D.

One of the problems wilcox had is that CDD wouldnt allow him to hire his own position coaches last year. Maybe he leaves ALONE!

What Wilcox did is the exception, not the rule...

A new DC will want some of his own guys.

Somehow you didn't understand me. He didn't bring guys with him to UT. So, he doesn't have his own position guys with him now. Then I went on to say he doesn't get along with the guys he has now anyways.

You're not understanding me. I didn't say anything about Wilcox taking coaches with him. I said that a new DC will want to bring in his own position coaches. People he is comfortable working with. Thus resulting in current coaches being replaced by the new DC's coaches.

That's not even a concern right now.

Steele would most likely keep the current staff

I know it was Miami, but his defenses were top 10 (total def) in the country 5 out of 6 years before becoming HC. He is also an ace recruiter and quite familiar with the FL talent base. I think he would work just fine...if he wants a DC job.

It would be BA if Wilcox went public on turning down the DC job at TX

I really really hope so. We desperately need some stability right now. I would love to see a staff be in on at least one complete recruiting class (which typically takes 1 1/2- 2 years to develop).

I agree with this statement if Wilcox is indeed gone. And no, it doesn't bod well for our program if an assistant is leaving us for the same position at another school.

That would be assuming it is a lateral move. Despite the the job title, it is NOT a lateral move.

Right!

Its def a step down, we are on the way up and they are on the way down. We had a better record this year with a harder schedule. They may be starting what we did after our under-achieving 5-7 year in '05.

We are still the real UT...not them!!!!!!!!! Much better program than Texas ever will be!!

I'm not sure how you figure this. The statement that I was making was that it is not "good" for our program for assistants to be going to other schools for the same position. And D. Co-ordinator to D. Co-ordinator is a lateral move. You might try to make yourself feel better by saying that Texas is SO much of a better job that it's a WHOLE NEW level. Either way it's not good for our program.

Yeah, losing coaches is never good, I agree. But for those that are delusional enough to think that being a DC at a Texas is not a more desirable job than being DC at Tennessee, you are just naive. It has nothing to do with the fan base, tradition, or even money... RECRUITING.

Hey guys stuck in Europe for the holidays and the first time reading VN since Friday. Can anyone give me some insight on what is going on because reading all these articles it sounds like the sky is falling and Wilcox is gone. TIA GBO!

No I completely agree. It is an EASIER job but that doesn't mean it's a different position all together. You can also add the fact that they play in the Big 12 (easier schedule, no championship game). It's still a lateral move and it's not necessarily good for our program unless Dooley thinks we can do better.

All rumors at this point. Not one substantiated report yet.
