I voted no only because of what's needed to win a national title. In my lifetime (41 years) other than 1998 and 2001, UT has never been in a position late in the season to play for a NC.

Look at Bama last year. Most people had written them into the NC game until their FG kicker couldn't make a FG and the most insane ending to a game I've seen in a while. You have to have some luck along the way and UT hasn't had much lately.

Yes or No?

I say Yes he will, and he should within 6 years.

I started this due to that fact some on this board think butch will not and may only get us an sec title if we are lucky.

Odds are no but I always bet against the odds! CBJ gets it and is the right man for this job! UT wins a NC within 6 years, book it!

My vote got us to an even 75%, so I had to post. Butch is the man. He has got the excitement to get the Jimmy's and Joe's. He has a good grasp of the x's and o's. I believe. Can't believe all the negative posts, go cheer for AL. Maybe you would like Satan and Satan's child better. Hell, we got a chance to win the East this year. You got to believe in what Butch is cooking. What you gonna do when Butch slaps you?
Go Vols.

If you are so sure then why did you say should instead of will? :)

I would have say to no. the odds are heavily stacked against him being able to do that..

I think he will put us in the position to be in the discussion. We need a little luck and once we get a couple 9+ win seasons, the recruiting flood gates will open. Most every recruit that meets our staff loves them.Especially Jones . The egg has to come first in this situation. The heavy weights are just not sold he can deliver the hardware until he proves he can.

Fulmer did it in 6 years so can butch no excuses, (crappy assistant coaches are excuses) .

I vote yes, but the odds are really stacked against a specific team winning. However, the playoff option may helpful, if you can win the popularity contest to enter. Several times, a team that lost early in the season, was playing the best at the end

Fulmer took over the program in a far more stable and advantageous position. Butch will first have to complete a major rebuilding project before he can elevate the program back to perennial national championship contender status.

I think he will because his teams in 2-3 years will be elite and DISCIPLINED. That will be huge for Jones.

Just like 98 there will probably have to be a little luck involved but being a glasses wearing, frost brewed orange kool-aid drinking Vol I gotta go with hell yeah!

What about I have no effing clue? Why isn't that an option? He hasn't made it to a bowl game here yet, can we talk about SEC titles at least first so we don't look that insane?

You're no fun! :dance2:

This is such a pointless question to ask, since nobody can have any clue. We could get to be a perennial top-10 team, but then it just requires a series of breaks to go your way through the course of a season.

I will say probably not, having just as little reason for my opinion as the next guy.

I sure hope I'm wrong, though.

Relax Chief. We all love Butch and the job he's doing. It's a pragmatic thing. Butch could do a phenomenal job, win 90% of his games and never get an opportunity to play for a natty. Look at Fulmer...HOF coach, 152-52 record, had some of the best teams in the country, and won 1 NC in 16 years.... and had some great breaks go his way (like all teams must have) for that to happen. It's a very difficult equation.

For me it's not a lack of faith in Butch over the long term....love the great things he's doing off the field but I need to see more on the field what he can do. If he could somehow squeeze out an 8-9 THIS year with what he has then I think most would say he could also be a special coach on Saturdays....he didn't show that last year IMO.
