i like this hire. not a blockbuster at all. but we do have to remember he was to take over tx but mack kept hanging around. so he must be good since tx, fl, usc are considered the 3 top jobs. anyway i like this. i give him 3 years to get ran out o town.

If FSU hadn't settled for promoting Jimbo Fisher after Bowden's "forced retirement," I could say with 100% confidence that they will own the state for the foreseeable future.

Interview and feelers are two different things. I'm sure he spoke to Stoops, Petersen and Harbaugh camps about the job. No way Will was #1 on the list.

Why would Mullen turn them down?

i thinkfoley sees the spread can only work in the sec if you have tebow or a cam newton. you can't base your team for the next 5-7 years on that. you have to be able to function and replace players and not have to have percy harvins and tebows or the offense won't work. with a basic offense you can still be affective.

When's the last time a college DC that went 5-7 in his last year with the team took over a top 10 program? Ever?

You can't tell me you / everyone wasn't thinking the same last year when we hired Derek Dooley from La Tech that went 4-8 the previous year. 4-8 at La Tech is worse than 5-7 in the Big 12

Maybe he thought he's got a good thing going in Starkville, and would like to continue building that program up.

I don't know though. The offer must have been pretty low for him to stay at Miss. State.

I'm not denying that. I was actually asking a legitamate question.

In proper Florida fashion they try to upstage the biggest night of Cam's college career by announcing Muschamp at the same time.Classy!

Yep. No way that a Big 12 DC from an underachieving team was the first and only interview for HC at Florida. Not when almost any up and coming younger HC (Peterson, Patterson, Hoke, Harbaugh) would seemingly have granted UF an interview, at minimum. Again, no way Will Muschamp's name was at the top of Foley's five name list.

Did muschamp and Dooley coach together at LSU under Saban? Interesting connections.

Wow. Florida managed to make a hire as bad, if not worse, than UT did, but UF is loaded and there's still almost 2 months to NSD.

This will make Ron Zook look like a great hire.

In what way is this hire nearly as bad as the DD hire was last year? Muschamp may not have any head coaching experience, but he has been successful everywhere he's been. He was good enough that Texas had already named him their next coach. Plus, he'll be able to recruit with the best of them, and there's plenty of talent right in his back yard. This certainly isn't a step up from Meyer, but I seriously doubt this is going to be the calamity that some on the board are predicting.

This is exactly right. If Muschamp is the only one they interviewed it's because the top choices didn't let them get that far.

Now Florida has a UGA grad that owns property with FSU's coach as their new head coach.
