Will rainy weather impact TN offense?

Tonight was the first time I’ve been able to make time to look at the forecast during Saturday’s game.
It appears it will rain all day, including game time Vs Mizz. Will that slow down Hooker and Co?

A wet field usually slows down the wide receivers and Manning used to say he wasn’t fond of throwing a wet ball. Siap - if so, mods can merge.

Thoughts! Go Vols!

To answer your question - yes rain and wet will slow us down.

Maybe I’m in the minority, but think GA whipped us. Regardless of the score, GA moved the ball at will and had the ball 9 min in 3rd qtr. It was a butt whipping. And I love my Vols!
Reality was not lost on you nor me and I suspect many others who just won't say it out loud.

Me! Me! Me! My answer is, is, is, will rain impact your tires' traction ability on a wet road?

Fork you, WoodsmanVol, you're dayum clown.

Not that it excuses OSU's struggles completely, but that was some wicked wind in that game

The problem is that the WIND impacted both teams but was used to defend a lack luster performance by only one team.

Just like the rain impacted both UGA and TN.

The wind did not stop blowing when Northwestern had the ball and the rain did not stop when Tennessee had the ball.

I’m in Middle TN and the Mrs. and I should be in Knoxville later this evening. I just contacted the hotel to confirm reservations and was advised rain Sat morning and then 50% showers during game. That’s much better than the 90% I saw last night.

Hooker had his worst game. He over threw potential TDs multiple times on passes he usually makes. He took sacks instead of throwing the ball away. Georgia probably had a lot to do with as well as having to play behind the sticks due to pre snap penalties. I believe he will get his MOJO back this weekend and finish strong.

Remember Mose Phillips long TD..."in the downpour".

Thanks for your post as brings back great memory.
That 92 game Vs FL in the monsoon @ Neyland will alway remain special to me. It is the first game I can remember attending as a UT (transfer) student from Roanoke, VA.

The roar of the crowd was so loud, and I was in awe of the 100k in attendance. I can still see Mose take that short pass to the house for six.

I met Mose in 2001 as I interviewed him for a job in Nashville. We didn’t spend much time talking about the game, but I brought up that one play. He was very humble and gave credit to his teammates.

What a great day as I was hooked on the Vols after that game and to this day remain proud to be a TN alum and fan.

Go Vols!

Come on man, of course it looked different when you watched it again, that's called confirmation bias. You saw what you wanted to see and what you had been told to see, forgetting how it looked and felt when you watched it live. There is also the ex post facto effect of knowing exactly what was going to happen and then reading back into the scenario.

Secondly, of course Kirby and the offense intended and tried to score on every possession, but that is arguing against a straw man. No one has been saying he was trying to not score or not trying to score, what he and almost all others said is that he altered the game plan to slow it down once we went up by 3 TD after an 8+ minute drive in the third and the rain came.

However, switching from High-risk/High reward calls to mostly low-risk/low-reward calls is not the same as "not trying to score". Yes, your defense stopped our run game after that last FG, but that is not the same as saying you stopped our best game plan and "shut them down" or thwarted the game plan. You guys had not scored a touchdown until the final 4 minutes, so there was no urgency for us to score fast, so we ate the clock and kept your offense off the field. Plan worked. Game over.

Now go win your last 3 games and come at us again, bro. That will be epic!
Gawd, do we really need a freaking georgia fan on our board? I mean, we've had a few Florida guys for years and they are respectful and have worthwhile posts, for the most part, but a georgia fan? Especially a freaking know it all psychologist. If any of you have the misfortune of wandering into the comments section on Saturday Down South articles, you'll see the likely outcome. Georgia posters are the most obnoxious and insulting of any school's fans.

Sloppier conditions favor Mizzou. Garbage weather tends to even out the advantages.

Currently seeing this:
A steady rain in the morning. Showers continuing in the afternoon. High 54F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 80%

Hopefully the rain breaks, or at least just a drizzle during the game and wind doesn't look too bad. Not ideal, but could be much worse too.

Missouri run primarily man or zone? Man coverage sucks to run in the rain, even though the wr struggles they know where they’re going and how they’re cutting, db has to try to keep up with crappier footing.

me too, and I've been mocked for it. People keep saying we shut them down in the second half, when they clearly took the foot off the gas, partly due to rain I'm sure. People say that's speculation on my part and the score tells the story, but I think they dominated us. So, those people must be consistent and credit Mizzou if the rain slows UT down.
I don’t think for a minute Georgia took their foot off the gas. I think they adjusted their game plan just like Tennessee had to. Both teams had to adjust to the elements. Both teams primarily were making yards through the air. Hell I would argue Georgia would be better in the rain than Tennessee was. I’m not taking anything away from Georgia either.

A few years ago Auburn “dominated” Georgia in the regular season matchup, a regular season “blowout” loss for the dawgs. Yet that Georgia team would get revenge in the sec title that year and would end up losing to Bama by 3 in the national title game. Auburn btw “dominated” Bama also earlier in the year beating them by 12.

Funny how those “words” don’t mean a Fing thing except when it comes to Tennessee to the media and some of our idiot “fans”.

Even with no rain it's supposed to be windy with a high of like 52-53. That could slow things down some also. But I think UT knows good and dang well what they need to do - whether they can do it or not - over these last 3 games. All they can do now is go out and win convincingly and hope the puzzle pieces fall where they need to otherwise. I think Heupel has no love for Mizzou so the other hope tomorrow is they'll really try to stomp on their throats and not get off until 12 minutes after they've been declared dead.

They were blitzing Tennessee well into the 4th qtr..

That's NOT taking your foot off the gas.

The real question is why do you want to give UGA credit for one thing, but not UT for VERY SAME THING????.

Well if the rain slows down the passing game then Mizzou will have to go through our stout run defense! And Hendon will run more. Also in the rain I believe it slows the CBs down more than the WRs.

As previous poster suggested should help us if they use man coverage. Hope I'm wrong but otherwise it'll probably affect us negatively.

Weatherbug indicates showers in the morning and early afternoon. But I'm guessing that field might be wet.

Longer cleats team!
