Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

I feel a bunch of different ways about this. This isn't a comedy club or a roast and it's not the time or place to make fun of JPS's alopecia. It's both a good and bad look for WS, depending on your school of thought. Rock took that **** like a G and acted like a professional.

*WARNING! This is an unedited version, and includes 2 f-bombs.

The open hand slap across Chris Rock's face is at the :20 second mark. This was too awkward of a moment to have been staged, and that slap sounds pretty solid. Will Smith lost his cool, and what should have been the best night of his career is now tainted. It's a shame.

The joke may have been in bad taste but Smith should have taken it up back stage. He was laughing 2 seconds before. It was completely out of character for him.

It looks like Will Smith was going to laugh it off until he saw that Jada didn't like it. Like you said, if Chris Rock was out of line, then you deal with it after the show. Will Smith is 53 years old. He should be better equipped to maintain his composure than that.

Now... THIS is the only thing anyone will ever remember about tonight. Will Smith winning an Oscar for Best Actor, will be forgotten.

Everybody will remember both things happened on the same night, of course.

On a side note, I love the recent changes to the Oscars process. CODA wouldn't have been nominated 10 years ago and now it's rightfully best picture.

Probably out of your perception of his character. I'm not saying he did the right thing but I'm not sure it's wrong either.
What are you talking about? In terms of the law? Someone making an insensitive and tasteless joke about someone's wife does not give the husband in question the right to respond with an act of violence (and yes, an open hand slap across the face qualifies as violence).

There is no doubt Chris Rock is embarrassed by this whole thing right now, and he will not want to make such an issue of it, but he could. In the coming days, the two of them will make up... and probably even film a commercial together. The marketing possibilities are substantial. However, there should be no doubt as to who who was in the wrong here. It's the guy who made the confrontation physical.

Who gives a **** about the law?

Mature adults allow the law to define right and wrong for them?
At a time of anger, a mature adult will (usually) maintain their composure, and not resort to violence as a means of conflict resolution, when there are clearly other options available to them. That is wise, at least in part, because there can be serious legal consequences for impulsive acts of violence committed against another person.

Do you remember what I said that you objected to? You are off the rails, bro.

You said, "Who gives a **** about the law?"

That's pretty darn "off the rails", as I see it, bro.

I said "I'm not sure it's wrong" which is totally reasonable and you're ranting at me paragraphs about the law and maturity. Take a break

... but it was wrong. Part of being an adult is learning to control your anger, and using violence only as a last resort. Clearly, Will Smith has a low boiling point which he should address. Will Smith went from laughing at Chris Rock's joke to slapping him across the face in about 15 seconds. That's fast.

If George Washington slapped a man for insulting his bald wife, it'd be a part of his legend.
