Will some current Commits be politely told to move on

Whatever we do... we'd BETTER upgrade the talent in the trenches. The SEC is won or lost in the trenches. We need some stud DE's and DT's. LB is lacking in talent at this point as well.

I know Saturday was rough but our OL and DL, so far, has held up pretty well against everyone not named Georgia this year. It isn't like we have played the scrubs either as we have beaten the 3rd and 4th best SEC teams (Alabama and LSU).

Dirty secret is that we always had great talent on the line, we were just not developing it.

I know this sounds horrible thing to do but with all the momentum and wins, will some of the lower ranked commits be told to look around ? It is early enough where they can find a new home. Not sure if or who those will be but our class does have a lot of 'low ranked' commits for a potential 11-1 team. Obviously star rankings are not only barometer staff uses but I would still think some of the highlighted ones will be told to move on.

Your thoughts ?
I’m sure the coaches will take your opinions into account thru ESD and NSD.

I’m thinking all of these guys are 5* in our coaches mind. Many of those 3*’s have been actively recruiting for the Vols and are also EE.
The 3* from south GA is a baller. DB, WR and punter. Has a good shot at leading his team to a State championship is the largest GA school classification

Disagree with OP but 2023 class isn't 100% completed for two reasons:

1. There are still about 25% of the prospects out there that have NOT committed yet.
2. No one has signed LOI yet.

Definitely not saying that this year’s success will not have impact on 2023… If the season has any impact on 2023 recruiting, it will be on a few guys that were already seriously considering Tennessee. The implication that Tennessee’s great season will lead to this immediate jump to elite level recruiting just isn’t how it works. There will certainly be one or two that flip from Tennessee to another school but it’s doubtful we see a ton of change between now and signing day.

I think the probability of a rise in recruiting momentum is much greater for the 2024 class which is still wide open.

I really don't know but every recruit you circled has legit D1 offers from other programs. This class is currently about 12th nationally and it is plausible that TN finishes in the top ten after all spots are filled. UT should also be an attractive destination for good players in the portal looking to transfer.

Man, there are some harsh comments on here for a guy who just asked what people think might happen if our success this season causes more interest from higher rated recruits. Why are y'all in such a bad mood? We gonna kick some butt tomorrow!

You can say I’m the one being a jerk, but you made a post saying we should ask some “lower ranked” kids to move on. This staff has been great on evaluations so far, and I just think it’s a bit silly to not trust them. I also did bring you useful information you just chose to ignore it. Leacock and Umarov are likely 4-star bumps and Spillman is the brother of the #1 player in the state of Tennessee for 2024.

These kids chose to play at Tennessee when we were essentially a dumpster fire. Sorry if it rubs me the wrong way when people suggest we should cut and run from anyone who isn’t a 4-star or higher the moment we find some success.

May be your reading comprehension is not to point. It should be clear to even a 5th grader that I am not suggesting or recommending that, rather asking will the staff take such action. There is a big difference between the two. The discussion boards are for such topics where fans can engage in different scenarios and brainstorm topics (not that what we talk here has any real implications). So lamenting someone who asks a question about a possibility as someone who wants to cut low ranked players is really sad move on your part.

My reading comprehension is just fine. I’m not the only person in this thread that pointed out the fact that you essentially just circled all our 3 stars and asked if we should move on from them. I’m just the only person you have chosen to quote and respond to.

from what I've heard not part of Heupel's MO. A couple might have qualifying issues and turn away but in general, not expected to lose any.

Keep in mind, this year there is no top number of signees / transfers in this cycle. All you have to manage is to the 85 number.

We'd be nuts to part ways with a lot of these kids. Weathersby is a beast. Even though he isn't a 5 star, he's the kind of DL that UGA has been recruiting and developing.

As long as you don’t drop 2 stars like Tilman and McConkey. Still remains to be seen how this staff handles the five star prima donnas but those are the guys we need to beat the upper echelon teams.

A star rating doesn't really indicate a players worth overall. There have been more 3 and 4 stars that have been coached up to be elite players than productive 5 stars. This coaching staff is easily one of, if not the best staff I've seen, so they know what they are looking at talent wise and what they can coach up and what they can't.

They won't drop someone unless a better coaching prospect comes along.

Nathan Leacock has been upgraded to a 4-star on 247, and he's a stud WR! Watch some of his highlights if you haven't...impressive.

Just shows you that our staff knows how to evaluate talent, because he was a 3-star when they were initially recruiting him.

To me the biggest need is ANYONE who can cover the middle of the field. We either let QBs run buck wild. Or we let receivers run wide open. The DL may not be so called SEC studs but they do a good job in creating pressure and stopping the run.

Recruiting is a multiyear process...there just aren't too many kids who haven't had us on the radar who will suddenly come running - most have their choices narrowed down to a few and they have built relationships with the coaching staff. We might be able to snag a few blue chips for the '23 class from programs that are dumpster fires and going through coaching changes, but I think our success this year will help our '24 and '25 classes take off more than the current class.

OP I'll weigh in since there are are lot of comprehension issues in this thread.

Yes, I'd imagine that might happen as it does at most schools. Also, you may see us back off a kid that looks like they might not qualify or if they've sustained a significant injury this season.

I've followed the Vols for the better part of 40 years and I think just about every coach we've had would drop/add kids along the way.

A verbal offer is no more binding than a verbal commitment.

Now, I don't know who would be a candidate as I don't follow recruiting that closely, but I'd be pretty surprised if it doesn't happen.

Definitely a possibility. It is what it is. If you want to win the recruiting game you’re going to hurt some feelings along the way. The kids we drop will still end up playing somewhere. Might even stay in the SEC. So it’s not like we will just leave them hanging with nothing. Someone will scoop them up.

We need a D line that can consistently get pressure on the QB without blitzing. Very few times this year has the front four alone been able to do that. UGA was a great example. Their OL locked down our guys and they had no answer. I'm SURE the development has been a part of our success this year, but you can't disregard God given talent.
