To just circle 3* and tell them to look elsewhere would have eliminated Cedric Tillman and Hendon Hooker (3* at Rivals) so perhaps just trying to decide about recruits based upon "stars" is absurd.I know this sounds horrible thing to do but with all the momentum and wins, will some of the lower ranked commits be told to look around ? It is early enough where they can find a new home. Not sure if or who those will be but our class does have a lot of 'low ranked' commits for a potential 11-1 team. Obviously star rankings are not only barometer staff uses but I would still think some of the highlighted ones will be told to move on.
Your thoughts ?
I couldn’t agree more. Leacock and Kaleb Webb will be a big part of the perimeter passing for the future. To me this year’s class is a little different in the fact I think we’d take 28-30 guys so we can build a solid foundation of Heupel’s guys. No more walkons playing the last play against Bama GoVolsThere's a couple in that highlighted area that will stick around - I would think Umarov, Bussell, and Leacock for sure.
Elarbee was really high on the two OL and Golesh was big on Leacock.
Spillman's another that likely stays as he is very fast...like Squirrel White fast.
Unfortunately, the rest is a mixed bag and like you said some of them will be asked to look around or possibly consider a walk-on role.
This situation becomes even more critical if either UT or the NCAA hand down further scholarship reductions.
I don't follow recruiting closely, but my understanding is that these kinds of adjustments happen all the time. At every top-end program.
So I would be surprised if it doesn't happen here, as well.
Having said that, I think Heupel & Co (as well as most other top-end coaching staffs) are smarter than the star-givers. I think it is entirely possible there are true five- or four-star talents hidden among those three-stars you circled. Guys who our coaching staff are HUGELY excited about, like big huge gold nuggets found panning, among the best in the nation at their position, just not recognized by 247 or ESPN or other grading sites.
And this is why I don't spend a lot of time on recruiting. I trust our coaches to know better than I do. I trust them to find the absolute best matches for our program. I don't even pretend to know anything they don't.
So if we see a young man, or more than one, suddenly drop his commitment with us to go find a spot somewhere else, I won't be surprised. Particularly if we just got a commitment for that same position group, or get one soon after the lad drops out.
I'll just sit back, calm, trusting our coaches really, really know what they're doing. Like 43,000 times as well as anyone on these boards. Heh.
