Will we ever have an elite program?

If you really look at next years team. Who will be the starters? If Hopson returns he will start, Tatum will start--point will be open--Harris starts at the four and Williams at the 5. Not an overwhelming lineup. Dept will also be an issue if we don't sign another post this year. Even if we do, we will be very young. A top 15 is out of the question for this group.

Pearl has done a great job. It is difficult to have and Elite football and basketball programs at the same time. For brief moment, Florida and LSU had both. i would not call their programs Elite.Something tells me Hamilton and Pearl goals are to be an SEC Powerhouse.:crossfingers:

Kenny Hall might start over Williams.

I think Kenny Hall has much more upside than Williams, but Williams will be a senor and will start. Hall will be in the rotation for both the four and five, unless we can sign another post this year. Hall has great potential and will develop into an excellent post player. He needs to get stronger which he will with time in the weight room.

To answer the thread question; no. The Vols have the misfortune of being in the same conference as the University of Kentucky. Much the same as the Kentucky Football program has the misfortune of being in the same conference as Alabama and Florida.
Oh yeah, and Tennessee. :)

Well, we did finish ahead of Kentucky in the conference for the past four years. If I was in your situation, I'd keep quiet since you haven't beaten us in football in a lot of folks lifetime--25 years!

Oops. Doesn't really seem like much of a comparison.

Seems to me like a great comparison. When you haven't beaten a team in football for 25 years and finished behind them in basketball the past four seasons, you have nothing to brag about because you have had a few early season victories in basketball. As far as tradition, Kentucky is ahead of every one in the conference. However, recent history hasn't been that great.

When you fall back to football on a basketball question, it just proves the point. Kentucky measures success by final fours and national titles while you guys are thrilled with winning your first SEC title. Kentucky, along with a handful of other programs, is the measuring stick in college basketball. You guys know it's true.

Who's arguing otherwise? I'm just telling you that the comparison of our basketball program of late to your football program is ludicrous.

I won't lie, i've believed in the past that maybe some of our girls bball teams would have played better against UK. But today, its a heated rivalry.

Nobody denies that as far as tradition in basketball, KY is the far away leader. But if you are only going to measure success in final fours and national championships, you sure have had a long dry spell. Why don't you try wining a SEC championship before you measure success in final fours and national titles.

Stupid post and bad attempt to 'try' and make someone look bad when your the one that mentioned football before anyone else. And we might of been excited to win the SEC title but you went through 3 coaches, paid a crap load of money to TRY and win an SEC title. We'll talk the NCAA's and Final Four when you prove you're "measuring stick" team can win a game without climbing on John Walls back against a half decent opponent.

If they ever won a title in basketball, they would shut down the entire state for weeks and celebrate---but we won't ever have to worry about that happening. Brooks for national coach of the year--another music city bowl--great season.

Actually, I intented to say if they ever won a title in football. We all know to win a SEC championship in basketball means nothing to the CATS!
