To answer the thread question; no. The Vols have the misfortune of being in the same conference as the University of Kentucky. Much the same as the Kentucky Football program has the misfortune of being in the same conference as Alabama and Florida.
Oh yeah, and Tennessee. :)

Opps sorry just had too,,LOL

These 4 are at a different level than everyone else
UCLA thanks to Wooden is so high, but...
texas
uconn
syracuse
kentucky
louisville? Yes! I did not know how great Crum had them playing and for so long!
g'town?
florida? This has to be in based on recent history
indiana???? This would be out on recent history. Post Bob Knight they are not close to elite. They may crawl back, or they may be UNLV.

Good list I think.

I think you would take out G'town, Florida,Indiana, Ky, and add Gonzaga.

g'town.... yeah.

indiana.... yeah.

FLORIDA??? uh... 2 NC's in a row not less than 5 years ago.

UK... with their tradition... and cals ability to recruit... i'd say UK is back to elite program status.

UK may very well be back. This season will determine that, but they haven't been elite for the past several years. Florida did win back to back NC's, but have done nothing since then.

can anyone find all the coaches salaries from all the schools on the list? that would be interesting.

Check the where does Pearl rank thread. I posted two links that have most of their salaries on there.

In the SEC he is 3rd, which is where the consensus said he ranks amongst SEC coaches.

That sounds about right. As of last season, his salary was 15-16 in the NCAA. I think that's about where it should be.

He is making a bit more than 2 million. That is close actually to what Alabamas coach is making. Look for the Wall Street Journal article. It talked about salaries and related it to RPI and victories. Good stuff.

wow... so more than coach k... more than calhoun... more than boeheim... dang, those guys must be loving bruce pearl. i can hear the negotiations....

"cmon guys. tennessee is paying bruce pearl 1.9 a year. i'm at least 4x the coach he is."

Txvol is right... The only way to an elite program is not just to win, but to win in March
Florida has won in march and I wouldn't call them an elite program. It takes a decade to become an elite team...I believe others around the country would agree.

granted they have not been ranked highly every year for 10 years. but back to back is still back to back. but i'm ok if we take them off the elite list.
