Top Ten Loudest Arenas (ESPN)

Allen Field House - 16,000
Cameron Indoor - 10,000
Rupp - 23,000
UNM Arena (New Mexico) - 15,411
O'Connel (Florida) - 12,000
Peterson Center (Pitt) - 12,500
Bramlage (KSU) - 12,500
Assembly Hall (Illinois) - 16,600
Gallagher (OSU) - 13,600
Matthew Knight - (Oregon) - 12,300

TBA seats 24,600. Notice the difference. As earlier posters mentioned, if we had a normal size arena, last night's game would have been a sellout.

Not only does a smaller arena help with acoustics but also with the psyche of the crowd.
If the game is a sellout, then those in attendance feel special. They are going to be more excited and the result is more noise. If anyone can get a ticket, then suddenly the experience isn't as special and there is less enthusiasm.

I'm pretty sure the Tommy Bowl doesn't seat near that many since the addition of the luxury boxes. Somewhere around 19-20k now.

Really? There capacity is 9,314. There average attendance..............9,314.

FACT!

That means they sold out every game in case you couldn't tell.

There has been a lot of talk recently about Duke's inability to fill up their student section. They're still doing just fine on the rest of the tickets.

NOOOOOOO!

About 25 students showed up for SC, why would you give then more seating, so that the lower ball looks even emptier in tv? They didn't even full the student section 3/4 last night. Start filling it up then it's a discussion, but you can't ask for more when you can't fill what you got.

25 students? Are you sure?

I have been to games against the likes of Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman and have saw more students in attendance. There is more seating than the mosh pit, you know. I preferred to sit in the corner seating, myself.

TBA is big for sure - especially for a football school - there are several bball schools that have stadiums around that size or bigger and sell out a lot and have great atmospheres

UK - 23K
UL - 22K
Cuse - 38K
UNC - 21.75K
KU - 16.3K

the key is to be competitive for enough years in a row to build a fanbase - it can certainly be done and Pearl was on the way to doing this - I think a lot of people gave up on this year before it started (myself included) and kinda sold this team short

but even saying that we are right up there with the national leaders in attendance - pretty good for a football school

this picture was DURING the SC game, hard to see the student section, but you cant tell theres a lot of empty space. also, the studen sitting section to "our" left in the pic is very empty as well.

im sorry but IMHO, until the students can pack their section on a nightly basis there deserves to be no talk about getting them better seating. the only games they really showed up big time were against UK, you cant give them primetime seating like florida does if for games like south carolina they're gonna show up like they did this year.

an elite crowd/atmosphere at TBA? Not an insult to the people who come out at all or anything just a question. Seems like we only have great crowds for the big games such as UCONN, UF, UK, Vandy. Even when BP was here we would have those nights where it looked like Knoxville had gone on vacation.

Are we just too big of a football school to sell out TBA every night? Do we simply have too many seats available to sell out consistently? What does everyone think it will take for us to do this, or are we set in our ways/unable to get excited about bball every night?

Just thought I'd ask. One would think with our facilities/young talent more than 17k people a night would come and watch the games.

We live in one of the most church-attended places in the country. Wednesday night games are historically lower in attendance than the Saturday games. Nature of the business here. We are top 5 in attendance... If you are stooping to this in reaching for something to complain about, just try being happy with our team...

The SC showing is awful... absolutely pitiful. The UF game you can only see the RT rowdies, or the first few to arrive.

There needs to be a class offered in basketball fanhood and make it a required frosh class taught standing up in the student section. Anyone who sits down or is quiet long enough to do anything more than catch their breath should be dismissed from school! 30 minute, 2x a week class. 1 Credit Hour course

FWIW after the showing against arkansas tennessee has dropped to 6th in attendance. i believe it has been 5 years in the top 5. come on vol fans TBA is plenty big enough to jump us right back into 5th place.

this is one of those streaks just like 7 ncaa tournament streak that just sounds great when said, and honestly holds some weight when you go into recruits schools or homes.

Guys, the area behind the basket is NOT the entirety of the student section. The seats the have in th lower and upper bowls are better for watching the game, and that's where the VAST majority of students sit. The Rocky Top Rowdies section is just the tip of the iceberg. In. My experience, once the SEC season starts, you have to show up at least 30 mins before tipoff to get a seat in the lower bowl. However, I know this season's attendance has been considerably lower, so I'm not saying you guys don't have a point. Just don't get confused and think the RTR section is the entire student section.

Duke's student section is reserved for 1200 student tix. FOr the Wake Forest game a few weeks ago, only 800 students picked up tix for the game. That's a fact Jack!

ok so student attendance is down a few, but they sitll SELL OUT EVERY SINGLE GAME!!!!

according to the article the attendance has actually been decreasing for students over the past 5 years. what duke does though is sells the remaining availability in the student section as general admission to the public. dont get it twisted though, not the GENERAL public, they go to IRON DUKES first, then if there are any left go to football and womens basketball season ticket holders, if there are still any left then they go to the general public, but this has yet to happen this year.

so duke sells the remaining student tickets for $65 a piece and packs the student section for every game as well as sell out the rest of the building. sorry but UT would never be able to do this, can you imagine our blue hairs being asked if they wanted general admission tickets in the standing section. :eek:lol:

you are correct. if you look in the sc picture though you can see the lower level student section and it is very scattered to say the least.

last night the sitting LL section was pretty full it was good to see. that goes along with what im saying though, so more students want to sit than stand???

so yea lets give them a whole sideline so that they can sit there? im pretty sure all the schools that give whole sidelines to the students stand the entire time. this is just one more reason, along with the fact they have a knack to not show up, as to why you wouldnt put them along the sideline.

Ok, the RTR has an electrifying atmosphere, but like I alluded to, the regular seats are MUCH better for watching the game. What happens to me every time I go to a game is that I sit in the lower bowl to have a better view, but I act like I shoud be with the RTRs lol. I get crunk.

OK, but big freakin' deal you sell 9600 tix to every game...
THe VOls average almost TWICE that many tix sold for every game

Now, I'm not comparing TBA to Cameron, but if TBA held 9600, we would sell out every game as well:salute:

duke would sell out a 20k building, dont get it twisted. they choose to have that small of a place because they dont need the money and they like the atmosphere that it creates. they have probably a better national following than anyother school, including UK.

exactly what im saying. we are going to give students an entire sideline so that they can sit?

and as i also said, its not even like the sitting LL is filled for every game, much like against S.C there are quite a few seats available.

Yeah I read a story not too long ago about how they've been having lots of trouble filling their student section. Also any major program whose arena seats less than 10k should not consider selling out their arena a bragging right. It would be embarrassing if they didn't.
