Will we ever have..

exactly what im saying. we are going to give students an entire sideline so that they can sit?

and as i also said, its not even like the sitting LL is filled for every game, much like against S.C there are quite a few seats available.

It would be f***ing awesome if they gave the students the sections down the sidelines, but I've heard no such thing. Instead, it's a thin sliver extending to the upper level.

Yeah I read a story not too long ago about how they've been having lots of trouble filling their student section. Also any major program whose arena seats less than 10k should not consider selling out their arena a bragging right. It would be embarrassing if they didn't.

Low attendance forces Duke Athletics to sell student seats | The Chronicle

the students arent coming as much as they used to but for good reason as stated in this article, your required to wait outside sometimes the night before.

as the article points out, even with students not all taking tickets, the student section still gets easily filled. people are waiting and doing whatever they can for tickets to get in that place. they would sell out a 20k arena every night.

but your missing what im saying, yes itd be nice for the fans that showed. BUT please answer these...

why would we give students sections down the sideline so that they could sit?

why would we give students MORE prime seating when for most games they dont even fill the seating they have?

duke would sell out a 20k building, dont get it twisted. they choose to have that small of a place because they dont need the money and they like the atmosphere that it creates. they have probably a better national following than anyother school, including UK.

Easy to speculate, however, if you're having trouble getting 1200 students to pick up their allotment of tix for a 9600 seat arena, what makes you think they would fill a 20,000 seat arena? Bottom line, I can tell your a closet Dukie and basically, I cant stand Duke. THey are along the same lines as Notre Dame in football and KY in basketball. Never get a call that goes against them on their home floor, much less on ANY floor. My favorite saying "Puke on Duke!"

no i hate duke im just realistic.

are they having trouble selling student tickets? yes

but you are missing the rest...

those tickets THEN are eaten up and sold to IRON DUKES, and season ticket holders of other sports and they fill up the student section.

do you know how much their tickets for v tech are going for, and v tech isnt even good? $300/ a pop

do you know how much their tickets for unc are going for, this is UK UT rivalry equivalent? $1,300/ a pop

its very simple, if you expanded the building to 20k you would fill it, you may have tickets lower some but if peole are willing to pay 300 a piece for upper levels for v tech i bet a whole bunch would pay $50 for them.

Maybe this hypothetical section was set up like the current RTR section: no seats. Problem solved. But I really think if we gave a section that went coast-to-coast down one side of the court, the passionate fans would grab those seats ASAP. I also know I'm not the only crazy person that sits in the regular section. Plus, this hypothetical section wouldn't extend as far back as current one. If we had this section, I speculate less than half of the average student section would fill up this dream section.

so you think if the student had just a section of 2 or 3 right around mid court on the sideline that itd get filled every night, and true if there arent seats they cant sit :)

IMO this would be ok, gve them 2 or 3 of the 5 along the sideline right in the mid court area, and do like duke has done. if the students dont get their allotment then make the tickets available to the general public.

id glady take those seats as would many.

unfortunately as long as TBA is there this will probably never happen

I would be shocked if that section weren't at least 80% filled every night, 90% for SEC games.

i mean im just going by what i see. the little corner sitting section they get isnt always packed, and like vs sc is less than half full.

so you combine that crew, with the RT Rowdies and i see them filling ONE whole section on the side court. the sitting section they get is much smaller than say section 105, and there are only about 200 RT Rowdies at most usually which is good for about 10 rows.

i just dont see them filling more than one section to the top, maybe you give them the first 10 rows along the sideline in each section??? thatd prevent students from not wanting to go because they are stuck up high in the LL. and you start them in the middle and spread out from there and if they dont fill then you sell them as general admission tickets. i like this idea, because our sections go REALLY HIGH so to pack it all the way up with students would be useless they're a mile away, if you give them 10 rows all the way along the sideline thatd create more of that cameron crazy effect where they are right on you.

and can we please get rid of the courtside seats while we are at it, and you can use that sideline to move the section closer to the court and put the students on that side, across from the benches.

there problem solved :)

and what has just taken place is what a sell out every night will do for you...

virginia just stepped out of bounds while standing on the sideline with a minute less, cameron crazies have them rattled

what a comeback...

123-126 is the student sections in the lower level. I always sit in 123 because it is the best view.

if it was up to me:

id give them the first 10 rows in 119-123, that gives them approximately 1000 tickets each game. i would take out the courtside seats that all the big time folk sit in, and move everything closer to the court on that side. this would put the students very close to the floor, and right on top the court, id also take out the seats so they have to stand :)

if for some games the student dont buy up all of their allotment, you sell them like duke does as general admission tickets to the general public, i feel theyd definitely get snagged up.

unfortunately i dont think this will ever happen, but i think its a great idea.

What are we 5th or 6th in the nation in attendance. What desert island has somebody been on

6th, but when your arena seats 22k and there 16 on average, those 6k empty seats look bad.

Then couple that with the students only filling up half of their sections and visually it just doesn't look good. Yes the number is high but the arena is so damn big, not many programs could sell it out on a nightly basis, there really was no reason for such a big place.
