Windy's football discussion thread.

I think all of us were optimistic at the end of the 1st half. The offense played well enough to win through 2 quarters. UGA's Defense took the game over in the 2nd half. It isn't all on JG. He has well documented limitations but the line gave him no help.
Honestly, even at the half we were getting just enough breaks to be in it. Georgia overpowered Tennessee the whole first half too. The defense is stout, but as Behr said, too many dumb mistakes. There was ZERO excuse for the targeting call. You’re free to not like the penalty, but it was pretty clear. Letting a defense dictate the signal count is embarrassing, especially five times. We knew we weren’t there yet in March, yesterday just exemplified it. We’re light years better than we were two years ago though imo.

I will add that the BS phantom hold *REALLY* hurt early on, but we overcame that.
Lucky Thompson wasn't ejected for throwing a punch. Some on the FF said he was punching at the ball. He wasn't.
No question at all about the bolded part.
Edit: That was a great defensive stand to end the first half in anybody's book.

We were getting breaks. But we knew going in we would need some breaks. We certainly weren't flawless the first half, but having time for our receivers to catch those 50/50 passes was just enough to keep them honest.

We got lucky with that second snap (I think it was second) and then we probably all got way too excited with that huge goal line stand. Deservedly so though. That’s a big portion of proof of how much better we are. Those two things don’t happen and it’s suddenly a ten point deficit going into the half. That’s why they play the games though, breaks and strange things happen.

Offense, I cannot tell a difference. Special teams, not sure but feels like we're worse there. Defense is better but either we have depth issues or they gave up when UGA started pulling away, neither of which is good. my opinion only, of course.

We’re developing running backs, have some really good receivers that are catching balls at a far better rate than they should based on the throw and the defense is really good. What you are missing from yesterday is time of possession: 36 and change for UGA and only 23 and change for the good guys. That deflates almost any defense.

Those goal line stands are significant. I'm not trying to make it bigger than it is. But in the past we would've folded like a cheap tent. Also, I think we all acknowledge the D line and LBs are in a building mode. If we can do that now, I am more optimistic about our overall D than I have been in years.

Yes. That was inspired play. Looking from the bird's eye view and listening to the national coverage last night and today, TN and Ole Miss both got thumped. Kiffin is going to get some elite recruits off of his loss. We're going to lose some. I know you have to have balance and we needed improvement all over the place, maybe still do. There's demoralizing, life force draining losses and there's inspirational, hope instilling losses.

The fans are far more hyper-reactive than recruits. With that said, Kiffin's performance was basically a 3 hour infomercial to recruits and he used that marketing slot masterfully. We are not using those moments to showcase UT very well.
