Windy's football discussion thread.

Signs of the coming B1G apocalypse:
1. Indiana is 7-0, 4-0 atop conference standings
2. Oregon is part of B1G and tied with IU atop the standings
3. Illinois is 6-2, 3-1 and 4th in the standings, ahead of traditional powers, tOSU (5-1, 2-1) and Michigan (4-3, 2-2)

Good to know your therapy is working so well…

I know how the system works and how much they already put into it. Quality will minimally improve
Since you know how the system should work I glad you’re on board with installing one.

I’m positive you agree it’s also wrong when the police break the rules to get the results they believe to be correct.

you can pay them more than Nico and they still are going to only get marginally better at best if only making decisions in real time. The idea paying them will improve things is hilarious to me.
I've thought about it and since you mentioned Nico and paying them whats hes being paid, I have come to a conclusion. Maybe its a reverse effect (first lack of a better phrase) of paying them. I believe it's just another domino in the domino effect of paying the players.

They're on the field with these 18-22 year old college student/athlete/millionaires driving Lamborghini's and Mercedes wearing 5 pound gold chains on the sidelines blah blah blah, you get the picture. And there they are.

I ain't saying it's THE problem, but you'd have your work cut out for you trying to convince me it aint part of it.

Throwing things onto the field is unacceptable (with the possible exception of targeting Kiffin). It’s possible that the officials were motivated by fear in making the exceptional reversal of the original call at Austin.

Motivation is irrelevant.
They made the call. And spotted the ball for play. There is no provision for overturning the call at that point. They watched it on the Jumbotron and took it upon themselves to disenfranchise every other team in college football by breaking the rules. The rules are in place for a reason. If those charged with enforcing the rules break them at their convenience then they should forfeit the right to be a rules enforcement agent.

Pretty simple stuff really

I get bill's side of it to get the call right.

I also get the side that says bad precedent in overturning something that is not reviewable and looking like you're being intimidated by the mob.

It is far from a simple solution.

Just follow the rules.
If the rules are bad then change them.
It’s all very simple.

To the extreme….
I have a second cousin who died when the police in Kentucky invaded his home. They mistook him for someone else and claimed they had probable cause to break in without a warrant. They did not. Had they followed the rules (law) my cousin would not be dead.

Now back to football.
The university of Tennessee played Georgia last year at home. The exact same mistake was made. Tennessee intercepts the ball and is called for pi and the ball is given back to Georgia.
There was no review as review is currently not allowed.

Clearly Tennessee fans should throw all sorts of **** on the field and force the refs to watch replays. Because the ends justify the means and the rules be damned as long as you think you did the right thing.

The qb at NC State (McCall who was at Coastal Car) is retiring from FB bc of injuries.

Good luck to the young man in life

And on this situation the answer is quite simple.
If the problem is that the penalty isn’t reviewable, and nobody wants to extend instant replay to penalties…..at least I don’t, games would take forever…..allow the coaches to challenge the penalty. If they challenge then it’s reviewed. If there is no overturn and the call is upheld then the coach loses a timeout.
Win/win. A small rule change maintains the integrity of the rules and we’re one step closer to the “just get it right” mentality.
The 10 second run off was brought about by Tennessee being screwed in a bowl game vs North Carolina. A couple more times of fans throwing **** on the field and maybe will get another positive rule change

Sorry about your cousin. I genuinely try to support police, but dead against no knock warrants. Several killed here, and one local baby was scarred for life from a flash bang. Someone mad at the people who lived there, lied, and resulted in that. Sad part, the person who lied didn't get anything, and neither did the cops. They got sued, but us tax payers footed that bill.

I had the same thought when I read Slice’s post. No knock warrants too often lead to bad outcomes.

I watched the Liberty-Kennesaw Sate game on CBSSN.
Liberty was undefeated.
Kennesaw State was 0-6 and got their first win over a FBS program 27-24.
I enjoyed watching the game because KSU had a lot to play for and played very physical.
Also overserved myself fairly significantly because peach brandy is dam smooth and it's easy to drink too much of it on a weeknight hahahahahaha

And no one here is saying that was PI. It wasn't. The argument is they broke the rules they are employed to enforce.

It really has nothing to do with that call in particular, but I think the officials in-game tried to get that call right, which I get.
It is the precedent.
There needs to be clarification and changes.
I mean they literally are not allowed to change that call, even if we want them to make the correct call.

then again, they literally cannot call DPI if a ball is uncatchable.
but it happens
I saw a ball Mayfield threw in 2015 bounce off the damn back wall in the end zone called as a DPI.
I don't know anything, apparently.

She's gonna be okay, Joe. I know you've had a lot of concerns with Tiffany and her health situation. But you have three girls who are going to be AOK. Even if they end up as cheerlieaders at UGA, you and Tiff have been great, successful parents through a lot of adversity. Respect.

This would however be a reflection on your parenting skrills.
