Wins at Rupp

I don't know Why but I just woke up this morning with a weird feeling. I think ccm prepared and coaches his behind off for this game seeing what kind of monumental game it could be. I see our guys getting pumped and cuonzos confidence rubbing off and is having a god shooting night. I'm going go on a limb here and say we win by 4.

Are you sure you didn't wake up drunk ROFL! J/k. Sounds good and I for sure won't be shocked if UT comes to play because everybody wants to beat Kentucky. And personally, I don't think Rupp is as bad of a place to play as it has been in the past (I know...Kentucky fans will die when they read this) but seriously...Memorial, the O'Dome and even the Hump gets louder than Rupp. What is the student section like in Rupp? I'd imagine a lot of donors / ballers set in the bottom so maybe that's why.

Still, I think the history of the place is pretty intimidating. I was highly disapointed when we layed an egg in Phog and really REALLY didn't want to hear that stupid Rock Chalk Jay-Hawk chant so I think that sometimes gets into kids heads but with Kentucky being a rival and a majority of these kids being in Rupp before, I don't see that happening.

Definitely wouldn't be the first time I woke up still drunk. It'll take a flawless game on our part, IMO Less than 12 turnovers, out rebound them, don't allow second chances, and no transition buckets. Those are very hard things to stop UK from doing but that's what it'll take, oh and us hitting shots.

The students get half the lowers section behind ONE goal, which is pathetic. If our student section could wrap the court, or at least realistically get an entire sideline, then it would be extremely loud. As you say, the rest is filled with blue hairs and elderly donors. If the student section were changed, Rupp would be THE loudest place to play, period.

However, for the Louisville, IU and UNC games, that place blows the roof off. Even the gray hairs drink 3 ensure shakes and get off their asses.

That's is ridiculous, even UT gives students one whole section behind a goal. I guess UK see it we are good enough at home already, why lose money and not gain any advantage?

Well, they get the entire section behind the goal, but it doesn't reach up to the second level, is what I meant.

Calipari makes around 6 million per season, and only around 400,000 of that is actual salary. The rest is endorsements, commercials, speaking engagements and advertising. All of the folks who pay for that, sit in the lower level. I'm interested to see when we renovate Rupp in 2 years what will change, if any. There will be more seating and luxury boxes, but there are still a crapload of alumni who donate thousands of dollars every year sitting down there.

i suppose like anything else it's all about money. seeing duke with the students surrounding the lower bowl is an amazing atmosphere to me, its awesome.

In all fairness, Dook is a private academic university that really doesn't need to generate much income from its hoops program. (apparrel and collectibles aside) They can afford to do it without sacrificing anything and really provide a great atmosphere.

Ray Mears was 15-15 against UK and that is phenomenal compared to everyone else. Mears also won in his first trip to Rupp in 1977. UT's 1976 win at UK was in the old gym

well that is true, there are many d 1 programs around that arent private that have a whole sideline for students. even smaller programs have dedicated whole sideline atleast on one side to students.

It's a little early to start complaining about the refs and their conspiracy to keep Kentucky as a 1 seed.

the fact that cal has already publicly requested the way he wants the game way called tonight i dont think its too early to start anticipating this.

Something else you have to understand, is that Rupp Arena is not an institution owned by the University. It is a public venue that has a contract with UK to play it's home games there. Most university arena's are funded solely by university dollars via revenue and alumni donations. It's just a unique situation.

Fun fact, although Dook only seats about 7,000 fans per game, they are the #1 grossing college hoops program in the nation, thanks to the many bandwagon fans who buy the apparel.

Off campus facilities are not uncommon and especially so in Kentucky. Freedom Hall is located on Kentucky State Fairgrounds property near the airport. The Yum Center is in Downtown Louisville near the river. Rupp is offcampus in Downtown Lexington to name a few.

Stating the obvious, the UK program has always been larger than life in the state. Thousands upon thousands of fans wanted to see games, but Memorial just couldn't hold them all. The cost of a new arena, even in the 70's was a huge price, and under no circumstances could they build a 23,000 seat mecca which would also host regional events and final fours. So the city built the arena, named it after Rupp, Kentucky moved all its home games there, and the rest is history.
