Wintrop looks pretty good on paper, 21-7. RPI of 55, 0-1 vs top 25, 1-0 vs 26-50.
By comparison, Alabama has an RPI of 63 and Arkansas has an RPI of 59. Seton Hall is a low #67.

UNC is a #11 RPI, Michigan State a #18, and WSU is #23.

Any thoughts on this bracket?

its a good one, but its not the toughest. even though winthrop looks good on paper, they are undersized and come on, they almost lost to a buzz peterson coached team. WSU will be a toughy if we have to play them, and so would seton hall. I have a feeling we will end up playing WSU (who is a defensive team) and win a very close one. you can take your pick in the michigan state vs. nc game. that could be a classic. My first instinct would be nc, but the more i think about it I think shannon brown and davis maybe too much for the youth of NC. so a michigan state vs. tennessee matchup would be my prediction. that could be where are tourney ends if lofton and watson dont bring there absolute A game.

I agree. I think UT has the winner of the Michigan St/UNC game, probably Michigan State in an upset.

UT matches up well with Winthrop, but they are a good team. A little tougher then I expected for a #15 seed.

i was kinda thinking the same thing, but its hard to turn down that nc vs. ut matchup. just so much is riding on that game. who is really the coach of the year? can tennessee stop tyler. would nc have an answer for lofton. It would be HUGE.

I think I would have rather had played #15 Davidson (#89) or #15 Belmont (#97), but you can't complain about a no. 2 seed!

Winthrop is not a bad team. They lost close to some respectable opponents but also to some bad ones.

Dec 3 @Alabama Lost 57-60
Dec 14 @South Carolina Lost 54-68

Dec 29 @Auburn Lost 62-64

Jan 8 @Memphis Lost 63-73

Jan 24 Coastal Caro. Lost 57-64

Feb 4 @Coastal Caro. Lost 50-64

Feb 20 @Liberty Lost 71-78

I think it's the best #15 out there. That may have been the thinking behind having them play UT at the #2.

EDIT: Anyone know Buzz well enough to get some scouting tips?

Lofton is a good player, but he isn't in the same class as Reddick, and Carolina shut him down on his home court. I love the comments about Carolina being inconsistent. They're not the ones that have dropped 4 of their last 6 games.

This season just keeps getting better and better. We got a two seed and then a Tarheel fan disguised as a Vol trying to flame our basketball team that we didn't even expect to make the NIT this year.

What a great night and year.

Losing 4 of 6 seems pretty consistent to me.

Spent a couple minutes checking these guys out... a few things stand out.

Beat Marquette at Marquette in November.
Lost close games at Alabama, at South Carolina, at Auburn, and lost at Memphis by 10.

Out rebound opponents by an average of 36-31.
Had 99 more steals than the opponents.
Average 45% shooting for the year, 70% from the foul line, 36% from the 3 point line.

Looks like an uncomfortably tough opponent for a #2 seed.

"The Eagles struggled more than many expected, but still won the Big South regular-season title and then escaped Coastal Carolina, a team that had swept them, by one to take the tournament crown and the league's NCAA bid. Still, don't count out the Eagles as a legitimate upset threat. Winthrop, which gave Gonzaga all it wanted last year in the opening round, is very battle-tested, having won at Marquette and losing close games at Alabama, Auburn and Memphis. The Eagles rank in the top 50 in both offensive and defensive points per possession and have several very talented pieces. Junior guard Torrell Martin leads a balanced scoring attack that features three players between 12.8 and 13.9 points per game. Aussie Craig Bradshaw, a 6-10 center, leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 per game and hit the baseline hook shot that beat Coastal. This is a well-balanced, disciplined, dangerous team that you don't want to see as your draw in Round 1." -- Andy Glockner

There's no doubt that Winthrop is a good club, but it could've been worse. I'll take our chance with them over who we would've had to play as a 4 or 5 seed any day of the week. No disrespect to Winthrop of course...

even though they sound good, I mean come on they didnt play a whole bunch of hard teams. I mean Auburn beat them, they cant be that good.

Still can't take them lightly, they have a good coach and some solid players and they'll be ready to play some ball.

I thought the same thing. UT was the weakest #2 seed so they gave UT the toughest #15 seed to play.

I agree. A lot tougher then I expected from a #15 seed, they actually have an RPI higher then both Alabama and Arkansas. :ermm:

Winthrop-Solid team, quality coach, tournament experience.
Seton Hall- Saw them live Wednesday night. Tennessee can certainly handle them.
Wichita State-Quality personnel, good coach. Post player would give Vols trouble.
UNC- Roy's done a great job, team is too young.
Michigan State- Great tourney coach, battle tested. Class of this group.

They are a very good #15. As an aside, Oral Roberts is also the best #16 in a number of years.
