Are portal peekers automatically excluded from playing in bowls?

The bowl games have lost their shine. Their major value is that teams get extra days of practice. When your best players opt opt, you are no longer the team that earned the bid. It was hard to watch TN play Purdue last year.

No Hyatt or Tillman possibly gone & the 2 Jimmy's gone who is left ? Keyton & Merrill

The only difference will be Hyatt from most of our last few games while Tillman was injured.... The Jimmy's were getting less time than White and Merrill anyway. Never good, but not a pending tragedy either.

The optimist in me thinks that Jalen will return.Inthe top 100 players rated for the 2023 draft,Jalen rates as 85.That's third round. If he returns,all-time receiving records can be his,and a first or top of second round place in the draft.Alot more money, and guaranteed. My hopes anyway.

We run the ball. A lot. Before Saturday night I was thinking we could be a run heavy team next season. If Milton wants to, he could be a force on the ground .
I think lack of depth kept him from being turned loose on the ground, hopefully they don't hold anything back in the bowl game

These wide receivers who are opting out of the bowl game and transferring shows a lot about their love for football. They can be practicing and getting better instead of playing video games for all hours of the day and eating munchies. Why wouldn't they announce until after the bowl game is over? If they are any good... coaches will find them and their current coaches would back them too.

It's a financial decision. They are not eating munchies and playing video games. They are hiring private trainers and chefs to get into the absolute best shape they can be for the combines. You have to understand that this is a one shot deal. If they succeed, it will be a moon shot for them and family. If you play in the bowl, you may win a ring. If you shine in the combines, you can be set for life. It does not reflect badly on UT.

For whatever it’s worth, I’m thinking a “prime-time/prestige” bowl (Sugar/Orange) may limit those who may decide risk to draft status/ability to shine at combine decide to opt out. What’s a bit more interesting to me is whether those invited to senior bowl would opt out of team bowl game.

Senior Bowl is the precursor to the Combine. Pro coaches working you out and NFL personnel there all week. It's apples and oranges (pun intended) from the bowl exhibition games.

Doesn't Hyatt only have a few yards for the single season record? Might be incentive for him to play

Not sure why anyone thinks an obscure record would be the slightest motivation to play if he's considering due to the draft.

Many think Hyatt will opt out to focus on training for the draft. He had an incredible season so another game will not increase his draft status. Plus, he would risk injury during practices and the bowl game.

Doug Matthews surprised me with his comment f during his show Sunday. He said it wouldn’t surprise him if a few players elected to sit out of the bowl game. Then he said “I wouldn’t have a problem with it.” That surprised me as Doug is a ld school and coached for Majors in the late 80s and early 90’s.

But he went on to say that winning the bowl game wasn’t important, and coaches prefer playing younger players who are returning the following year.

Matthews is being realistic. There's too much money at stake today, you're talking about a kid's future.

Totally agree with him on bowl games. Coaches know the season is over, but the extra practices and the game give them a jump on next season, to be able to look at guys you'll be counting on.

Fans put their own emotions front and center, and believe players should feel the same way, and the draft can wait. Matthews offered up a nice reality check.

Honestly I can’t blame Hyatt or any other player that sits out non playoff post season games. Fans will remember Hyatt for dominating Bama and breaking the streak, not his 1 TD, 84 yards, and Milton’s constant overthrows of him against a 3 loss UCF in the Cotton Bowl. Just another reason the playoffs need to hurry up and expand.

Billy Dee Williams can run the skinny post route in 4.07 with a Colt 45 tall boy in each hand...

Sign him up as a fly guy.

This can't be a serious post.
